Yo stomach,

Stout is good. The El Diablo burger is good. We both knew this. My apologies that Mind didn't know beforehand that perhaps they ought not mix in full quantities. Now that you're not stuffed with liquid bread, solid bread and dead cow, stop haranguing Mind with the logies.

Many thanks!

--In other news, I had four endeavors today: however resolve the problem with my webpage display, pick up the book I requested from the library, replace my battery, and fetch my paycheck and work schedule for next week from the bookstore. I am happy to report that I actually accomplished all four of those tasks this afternoon; or rather, three and three-quarters perhaps, if one wants to be technical.

It turns out that what I feared might be a problem with my laptop itself was, after Googling around a bit and reading some techies' advice articles, really just a matter of Internet Explorer being the browser that I was using. I managed to download Firefox and am able to do the things I couldn't on the other browser. (Which means I got to finally update "Humidity"--check it out if you like, in my usual two places.) That matter of DUH! (particularly considering that in retrospect I think I may have encountered a similar problem to this years ago, that was likewise, similarly solved) accomplished, I walked the ten blocks down and six or seven blocks over to the library and picked up my next read after I'm finished with the title I'm on right now (in-depth history book about Japan in the wake of WWII and under US occupation), Naguib Mahfouz's Midaq Alley.

I opted to test the fire a bit on my way back to the house. I was maybe a block and a half away from it approaching the back-way, and a trio of middle-aged black men were rounding the corner opposite as I was crossing the street. I've got a sort of bounce in the way I walk and that's just a physical fact, but when some people, namely men of a certain age, point it out using that word it comes off to me as kind of derogatory and I'm not real pleased with it. So when one of these guys calls out "bounce" followed by "How you doin' baby?," I spat in reply, not even stopping. Don't think he liked that much because he called after me, but I think one of his buddies said something to him like, "Let the whore be."

I'm not so sure I might have gotten away with that so cleanly were it the summertime. Perhaps the cold, while provoking pissiness in me--such as when I found out the other day on my way out the door to work that our dryer, full of my wet clothes, was busted--, makes other people's balls shrink up into their insides--and since they're not used to ovaries, all they can do is talk shit, but not really act on shit, even when someone spits. Hah!

(Of course, after slinging my laundry around the bathroom and bedroom the past few days--most of it's dry now at least--Ramsey, who does like three times more laundry than I do per week, fixed it. I knew at least that it was some matter with the drum; he says it slipped off its belt or something like that. Whatever it was, I came home very early this morning and heard it rumbling, and it was bea-u-ti-ful XP)

Anyway, after that I went to the O'Reilly's up the street, and they were busy enough I was going to ask for help installing the battery (if anyone asks, I don't have the tools; if anyone presses, I don't off the top of my head have the know-how to perform what I'm sure is a relatively easy task, either), so I just went ahead and bought it, because a couple of the guys at work (car wash) have already said that I could just bring it up there and they can put it in, and I work there tomorrow--hence that task being three-quarters done. Battery cost about as much as what the paycheck I picked up today is (not for full-time hours, of course!), but the one currently under the hood has been there since before the car came into my possession, and I get tired of having to or worrying about having to throw it in park and restart it at long lights and shit. It needed this.

And that's been my day mostly. Right now I'm doing a little bit of research for a short story idea I keep putting off writing, plan on sauteing some veggies to make dinner with, then I'm meeting up with a friend and her brother to do I-don't-know-what-yet (quite probably, go smoke and watch a bunch of movies *shrug*). Back to the grind tomorrow!
