A few bullet points as regards the weekend.
  • It is commonly believed that my car's battery is straight-up dead. It is commonly believed, because it appears to be very much the case. Marcos jumped it for me yesterday morning, and I got her over to the next block before she conked out again. Fortunately a cop was in the area answering some call, and called a wagon over to jump it for me again. I got her back home and parked her behind the house, where she's been since because she won't start. Cops and Marcos both said maybe it's the accelerator. I got a phone message from my dad (who did not come into town this weekend, and wasn't quite sure why he said he would) saying that it's not the accelerator, it's the battery. If I understood the message right (I'm gonna call home later this evening anyhow), they're going to Topeka next weekend, and if I can meet him there he's gonna fix a few things, like the passenger window that fell into the door and is reluctant to come back up. In order to meet him in Topeka I need to take the battery out of the car and take it to someplace like WalMart to get it tested and/or get a new one of the same type. Estimate expense peaks around the $50 range; not bad. I just need to kiss up to someone with wheels, preferably earlier in the week. I know a few people I can charm/bribe.
    • The car has been named White Trash Beautiful, due to its coloring (white with many chips; there was something wrong with the mix of paint that year), its behavior for the better part of this past week, and as a testament to where it and I are from anyhow. That is why I keep referring to it off and on as she/her.
  • Friday night Sara, Tatiana and I went to this Thai place called Lulu's. I told them I'd never heard of it, but when I saw the sign (it has a graphic on it that sort of reminds me of Little Lulu ... probably not coincidental) I remember that Jack had pointed it out to me before and said that it's excellent. It was, and afterward we made cheesecake and watched this Israeli movie called The Secrets. Jewish lesbians at the seminary. Hell yeah, and the actress who played Naomi has some of the most striking eyes I've ever seen.
  • The Secrets ran til about two in the morning. Tatiana said something about catching "a half-hour nap" before walking back to her place (her house is about three, four blocks over from Sara's apartment). That wound up with me helping her find one of her shoes around nine the next morning, haha. I took the bus home about a half-hour after, had my car adventure, and later that afternoon went and did laundry with Sara. There's a promotional free wash this last week of October at one of the laundry places on Main Street, so all we had to pay for was the dryers. For over a month's worth of laundry, I ain't gonna complain. And Merv Griffin (Sara's puppy) was well-behaved the whole time--which is surprising, because she's usually a brat (but she's been getting better) XP
  • Last night I wound up going with Sara to her friends' house out in Overland Park. For whatever reason, there was a moustache theme, and since there was only one guy there it meant that everyone else drew theirs on with lip or eyeliner. The pair of wives that was our host sported the best ones, I think, because after a minute or two it just looked natural on them. They looked like young German men, haha. We're talking about wearing moustaches to class sometime this week to see what sort of reaction we get.
Today I typed up my notes for this presentation my group's giving over Roy Kurzweil in Philosophy of Technology on Tuesday. For an idea of what Kurzweil's essay is about, just think of that episode of Futurama where they literally get on the Internet, coupled with the one where Fry downloads a robotic copy of Lucy Liu, and you've got it. And yes, I am so going to reference that show during the presentation every chance I get.

I've got a philosophy midterm I need to work on this week, which I'll maybe start on tonight once I figure out where the hell I put my textbook... I swear, I had it not an hour ago when I was looking over the Kurzweil article, and it's disappeared. Well, it'll turn up somewhere tonight, I'm sure. I've also gotta read more of Light in August, which is without a doubt my favorite out of the Faulkner novels we've read so far. There's something about Joe Christmas that reminds me of John Childermass; or, the two of them share enough of the same type of qualities that I really like in characters, and that's why Christmas reminds me of Childermass; either way.

I've also come up with a more specific topic for my Christianity paper that's due in a couple of week.s I'm taking the issue of sexuality in the Christian church, and I think I'm narrowing it down to the rift in the Anglican/Episcopalian church regarding the role of women and gays in the church, specifically in the clergy. A few years ago Reverend Gene Robinson became the first openly gay Episcopalian priest to marry his partner in the church, and that peaked this ongoing debate, predominately between American and African churches of that denomination. Some churches in the U.S. have broken away from the established Episcopalian church over the issue, while in Africa there's notable nays from some bishop in Nigeria whose name I don't remember, and yeas from Desmond Tutu in South Africa, who doesn't see what the hell the big deal is. Tutu, if I recall right, did some time back during the anti-apartheid movement, which makes me like him even more than him being on the same stance of the issue that I am. Nigeria, in the meantime, tried executing Chris Abani because he wrote something that the government didn't like. So fuck them *pfft* At any rate, that'll make researching easier, theoretically speaking, because I know specifically what I'm looking for.

I might see if I can Google around for some article pertaining to that right now, in fact. In the meantime, go watch that trailer for The Secrets, or watch this AMV because it's Franz-centric and the fucking song has been stuck in my head all day XP
