No classes again until Monday XP Not that I've been ass-raped with homework or anything; I haven't had to deal with anymore than I can handle, but still it's nice not to have had to get up at seven this morning; I slept in til nine-something and it was fantastic.
I actually started my break a little early yesterday. I went to my day-time classes: Faulkner, Philosophy of Technology, Shakespeare--which concluded at 3:15 in the afternoon. I have a night class that runs from 6-8:30.
Well, around five I got a text from Tatiana asking what I was up to. And, long story short, I went on the lam, which is exactly what I texted to Jack around 6:30 when he, prompted by Anne (our teacher) no doubt, first called, and when I didn't answer, texted to see where I was. Anne can't kill me if she can't find me.
All we had last night, to my knowledge, was the conclusion of our critique, and that mostly of people whose stuff I've seen and critiqued several times before. I'll work harder on my own shit over this break to make up for my rare absence, bu it was worth it. We watched this funky collection of short films called
Paris, je t'aime. Elijah Wood's in this odd vampiresque vignette, and it's sort of like watching Frodo get molested by a female ringwraith, but in Paris ^^ Then we ventured over to Sara's place and ha this awesome beef and pepper and rice burrito things and played "scattergories." Trying to think of a world leader who's name starts with "C" is even more high-pressure when high (I managed to come up with Charlemagne), haha.
So, no apologies from the lam.
Today Johnna and I went grocery shopping. She'd never been to an Aldi before, and was impressed with how much we got for how little. We didn't even hit a hundred bucks for what'll probably supplement what we've got here for at least two weeks, I'm figuring. Right now I'm essentially alone, as Johnna and Dana are both at work, and Byron is a hermit. I'm watching YouTube video on the Wii and shall at some point put the pasta I cooked earlier away in the fridge.
So over the break there are three things to do:
- A paper on the coordination of the character of Caddy with the concept of Time in The Sound and the Fury
- Read an essay by a philosopher named Feenburg
- Read and wite a response to Act I of King Lear
Good friends, I am by the way, an English major, had that never come to your attention before.
Aside from those I want to finish at least one thing for what I've been doing in art, and also I really want one, complete draft of the next chapter of "Jagamino." I'm thinking that when the next update comes it'll actually be a relatively short chapter followed by a longer one, and for now I may write those two together as one piece and then decide where to make the suitable split later. The story's nearing its end, because I can honestly only see it going on for maybe another several chapters, and no more. I know what-all I want to happen, I just need to figure out some sequencing matters and such things due to the number of vignette-like scenes that this story has come to dictate. So demanding! But I did write a scene for it recently, so I think if I get that back out and use it s my springboard, we'll see something happen.
Immediately, though, I've taken to reading a book I borrowed from the head of the English Department last week. It's by Chris Abani, the author of some book or other that's the common reader at the Sigma Delta Tau (the English Honor Society that I filled out an application for this week--we all do love the acronym XP) convention in the springtime. I forget that piece's name, but this one's called The Virgin of Flames and it's pretty sweet. I'll talk about it more as I get further into it, and I've already noted one or two passages that I think owuld be pretty good to share. So I think that right now I'm going to read another chapter or few of that. Later!
