*wary about telephone correspondence with home now...*
Tuesday I found out that my buddy Seth, who December of my senior year did something incredibly stupid and then boasted about it at some bar (even more incredibly stupid), has finally had his trial. 20 yrs. 14 before elegible for parole. Yeah ... Don't think I'll be seeing him again. (On the bright side, it seems his father may not need a wheelchair anymore soon.)
Yesterday morning my Mom called and told me that my friend's cousin had been in a wreck on Sunday, and due to the foggy conditions had to be driven to Topeka because the hospitals in the Clay Center and Manhattan areas don't do trauma. He's on a respirator right now and there's fluids on his brain, which they think is at least a little damaged. He's also got a busted femur. Talked to my friend last night and he's still in a drug-induced coma. Also, the woman (or cunt, as my friend put it) who was driving now claims that he was the one driving, and the law's trying to bring charges against him. ... The dude's in a coma. And from the sounds of it he might not be competent to stand trial once he's out of it. *eye roll* Douchebags.
Yesterday's news definitely sucked more than Tuesday's news. My friend's cousin was allegedly just now getting his shit together and everything--and then this. She also lost some friends in a fire last month, so it's definitely the suck for her. (They were Wiccan; I heard the funeral was quite interesting.)

On some plus sides, I present on the Kokinshu tomorrow, which means I'll finally get to show that YYH clip in class. Also to be a little different I'm gathering a few pieces off of Deviant Art to demonstrate contemporary depictions of aware, the sweetness and pain aesthetic that's present in the Kokinshu and other Heian literary pieces *cough*Genji*cough* And yet not once is aware mentioned in our textbook 0.o So I'm going to remedy that, and make it the main theme of my presentation.
Also before that, presuming he's there, I spend the second hour of the library working in the basement archives with this most lovely guy of Asian descent who works in the backroom for the reference librarian ^_^
I'm probably a bastard for my desensitization toward the events going on back home (not that I'm tripping over myself over things here, though), but, well, that's why I made my Tenzen Bastard! icon.
By the way: Hiei 08 has a new story out, Shura's Quest. I don't know yet what all's going on because I'm only in Scene 6 (well come on, it just came out a day or two ago, so), but it's definitely interesting. And yet I'm the only one who's reviewed so far...
