Video games turn people into ravenous animals

Like the rest of the retail world in this country, there are people lined up to purchase Playstation 3's.

Our line started Tuesday evening. Things were copacetic and friendly until 5 PM on Wednesday. At this point, there were 17 people in line. The store manager and the head of security come out, introduce themselves, make with the pleasantries. It is at this moment that the head of security takes a deep breath and steels himself.

"We project... that we have... eight units."

Holy shit that line turned into a bunch of motherfuckers. Accusations being thrown left and right, about line-holding, about groups being allowed to purchase multiple units versus not being able to. People getting up out of chairs... possibly looking for a fight. The head of security had to go out three times over the next hour to be peacemaker. He came up to me and said he was tired of it, that he was one more incident away from calling the police.

I told him that my only concern was that they don't give me any shit. I've already put in my two weeks; I don't care what I do. I don't have to play nicey. My job is to sell as many extended warranties as possible. Usually, I hate doing that kind of thing; I'm going to relish doing it tomorrow.

Besides, all of these people in line don't even truly want the system; it's eBay for them.
