Hi all!
how's it going? This week has been hard and furstrating, but with every frustration God's assured me that He's got a plan of His own.
We started our internships on Sunday. i'm working with three other girls at Calvary Evangelical, aka The Blue House. Our pastor, Pastor Timothy, is incredible, but he has so many ideas which is a bit overwhelming for us. We'd like to focus on one or two areas and really pour our energy into those. I was also frustrated because I didn't feel like i was equipped to do any of the things that were being asked of me. Fortunatly our leaders talked with the pastor and we have a lot more direction now, which is very nice. Our main focus, as I mentioned before, will be discipling girls in the church adn equipping them to disciple other girls after we leave. On sunday I'm teaching the youth Bible study. I really felt like God was leading me to do this, so I'm pretty excited about it. Please pray that God will give me His words to speak.
We don't do internships on Mondays and Tuesday. On Mondays we have Swahili lessons and then our nights our free. One of the fun things about Kenya is that the electricity gets turned off a lot. On Monday night we were sitting around playing cards when suddenly it was pitch black. But we all have these head lamp things, so we turned them on and we looked like a bunch of miners sitting around. it's pretty funny.
On Tuesday we went to a big park for our devotional time. i was walking around trying to find a nice place to sit when all of the sudden a monkey ran across the path and up a tree. I looked up into the tree and saw five more monkeys! it was awesome. I've never seen monkeys in the wild before.
Tuesday afternoon we had personal ministry time. i was really stressing out cause i didn't know what i was gonna do. i ended up organizing the AIM office and had a lot of fun doing it. it was refreshing to just get away from people for a while. Tuesday night we had girls night. we're usually not allowed out after dark, but the leaders took us to a coffeeshop in town. we felt pretty crazy, going out at night, hah.
Wednesday afternoon pastor timothy took my internship group on a two 1/2 hour walking tour of Kibera. It was interesting to see more of the area and meet more people. it's such a dirty, dirty place though. i had a layer of dirt on me when we got back. we passed by a river that was so full of trash, kids were walking across it on top of the trash.
Wednesday night our base directors, whom we lovingly refer to as Poppa Scottie and Momma Lisa, shared with us their love story. they're super great people.
welp, that's it for this week!
Much Love
Andrea
