Night of Awesome TV!

So I'm in my third and final year of university now. In anthropologist terms I am reaching the end of the liminal period that is higher education and shall soon(ish) have to face the transition into adulthood and reintegration it to what some would call the real world. So I could talk about that and how actually I'm planning on taking a Masters in Medieval Studies instead. Or I could mention that as of October the Third I've been going out with The Boyfriend for two years and discuss how being in a relationship constantly makes you think about the sort of person your are, for instance are you the sort of person who trusts that people can actually sort out their own shit for themselves? (I some times find this quite difficult.) Are you the sort of person who talks about their feelings? (Again, I'm working on it.) Are you the sort of person who is honestly happy to spend an entire day snuggling? (Yes, yes I am.)

But rather than being all introspective I'm just going to have a bit of a squee about all the TV shows I watched tonight.

Grey's, show of my heart, while I don't mind you experimenting it was very nice to see the return of Team Oestrogen (name stolen from Sue Perkins, bless her sensible brown brogues). I wouldn't say that this was a stand out episode, but it was solid, with the usual moments of angst porn, character moments and laugh out loud comedy. I am slightly worried that they are sidling Lexie so much, will it be a plot point? Are they preparing for her to leave? Or was the actress just busy at the time? If its just a case of not knowing what to do with her then I call foul as the show has blatantly not known what to do with Owen for the past two seasons and they've just kept throwing plot points at him. Speaking of Owen, either they've actually started writing him better or I've gotten bored of being bored of him. Secret, I want a kid angst suits him. I almost felt sorry for him when he was watching Christina with Zola. Though I mainly loved that scene because it obviously stems from the fact that Christina basically co-parented with Meredith for however long the shows hiatus was and doesn't mind being Aunt Christina to the adorable Zola even if she isn't willing to have her own kid. Other things I liked: Mere having a little bonding moment with Avery over their mums, Arizona making Callie promise to make Sophia legally her kid as well, Alex, just Alex. Seriously, the boy is over come with guilt and will at this point basically do anything to make it up to Mere, from quitting the test to get onto the surgery to telling her about Zola even when he shouldn't. Of course being Alex he doesn't always do the right thing (and I love that Arizona is there to slap him down) but he is trying so hard at the moment. I was a bit meh about the main surgery storyline, mainly because although it does give Avery a bit more personality I'm still not that invested in him and, please, for the love of peace, why are we resurrecting the Mark/Lexie thing again? Argh!

Community; I think that this may actually be one of my favourite episodes yet. This sort of episode, the ones with a really solid, if weird, central "gimmick/premise" are what this show really excels at. It was really lovely to see all the different group dynamics at work and contrasting with each other. It also may have brought me fully on board with Troy/Britta. And I adored the coda with the Evil!Study group.

Merlin; oh show of my... other heart. Watching this episode I honestly felt like I was watching some sort of hypothetical child of mine going off to uni or something. Seriously my show has quit the reset button and is all grown up and doing things that have long term consequences. True its regressed slightly in terms of having women that talk to one another, but on the plus side Morgana actually got to personally and actively do magic in order to achieve her goals which results in her plan actually having a profound effect on the course of history. She basically wins this episode. (Although we must presume that by this point any pretence of wanting justice for other magic users has gone; along with the ability to brush her hair.) Gwen too gets quite a few scenes, though she is mostly in the background, we also got another firm reminder that she is tending to Uther for Arthur with, for me, the subtext of "This man killed my father, you own me a hell of a lot, so when I'm queen there is going to be an awful lot of social justice going down." Also, her face at the end, I can't even, she's just so proud and happy and glowy and maybe, because she's human, more than a little bit glad that she doesn't have to look after the man who killed her father any more. Merlin... oh again the last scene did for me, because he knows he's fucked up and he knows there are going to be tough times ahead, but... he just can't help but yell "Long Live the King!" with everyone else. The way it just bursts out of him... oh hold me flist, hold me. Basically this episode is just one long "the boys done good" for me. They just knocked it out of the park. And I can't wait to see what happens next.
