No Singing Please...

Because you are a drama not a musical.

Or my second example as to why a cast singing pop songs does not a musical episode make. Dear Grey's, if you want to know how to do it properly may I direct you towards Buffy and Scrubs. Know what they had? Original songs written for the show that actually directly related to the subject at hand.

Ok so I didn't hate it. But I could feel myself struggling to like it. And this is Grey's, I love Grey's. And its an emotionally charged finale. My favourite. Which is where the singing didn't help. It distracted from and made the talky emotions stuff, the stuff that Grey's does so well, feel rushed and tacked on. I mean I understand why they did it. I support the trying of new things and everything. And Grey's does pop song montages of significance like no other so there was potential... but lets just agree that it didn't really pay off. Also the final song... too many choppy cuts combined with the EMOTIONAL singing which makes you SHAKE BEDS but not actually feel anything does not equal an effective viewing experience.

However there were bit that worked the Derrick and Mere lift scene made me weepy. Have I mentioned how much I love them? And it was good because the show did what it does best let the actors and thus the characters speak for themselves. I was so glad that that didn't turn in to a song sequence.

But still Grey's is now off my screen. :-( But it will be back. :-D And hopefully there will be no more singing.
