Last night I went to see Plan 9 From Outer Space with Billy/boomerz1, Ed/tycho_anomaly, and Jeff/hammerride.
It was an encore of a live hi-def theatrical broadcast with Rifftrax, the brainz behind Mystery Science Theater 3000. It was one of the most fun experiences I’ve had in a long time, I was laughing so hard I was worried at times I would pass out. Plan 9 is pretty ridiculous to begin with, to the point that some of us were thinking it didn’t need the MST3K treatment, but the results were hilarious. Thanks to Billy for reminding me of this screening! I’ll have to sign up on the Rifftrax mailing list; I hope they do it again with other movies.
Now I want to watch Glen or Glenda and Tim Burton’s Ed Wood again.
Afterwards Billy had to run off to a Bob Mould concert, but Ed, Jeff, and I went over to The Stand for their extra-yummy burgers, fries, rings, and shakes. It was Ed’s birthday so I gave him a copy of the wild Fantagraphics anthology of cartoonist Fletcher Hanks’ work, I Shall Destroy All the Civilized Planets, which seemed appropriate for the evening.
