For Anyone (but especially Anita/Valen/Sanzas)

Locke has been surprised unpleasantly before. Altogether too often. Locke has been confused before, if not very frequently. But this, right now, is probably the most bewildered Locke has ever been. Too many feelings, and they get very confusing very rapidly. He's in his room again, sprawled on his bed, looking concerned and mostly just - well.

He ( Read more... )

Locke blinks once, jerks out of his daze, and looks over at the door. "---Anita!" He grins, abruptly, and while he doesn't jump out of bed, it's a near thing. He does sit up, and that's definitely something. "You're up. Sort of."

"Heard a rumor you were doing better." She looks at him. "Obviously it was over-rated."

She crosses, a little less angry.

"You made me get out of bed, smart-ass. I missed you." Cross. Affectionate. Anita-like.

He is doing better - less pale, less sick looking, and he's well enough to be bored - but there's still blood, definitely. "I'm certainly sick of this place. It's - what happened to your eyes?" Alarmed, yes, but more for her than anything.

“Nothing, innovating the latest fashion,” she says, cheeky, blatantly lying. Because, she didn’t think about it, but how can she explain the magic to Locke? She’s afraid he’ll hate her for it. Then for hiding it.

Shit, and shit again.

He just looks at her, flatly, letting her know that as a professional liar he has no doubt that she's lying her ass out the window.

She sighs, and instead of plopping on the chair where she would usually sit, she climbs into bed, careful of his healing wounds, and presses her head to a place that's not looking like swiss cheese.

"Promise not to be angry with me," she whispers. "I can't have you angry at me."

Why the cuddliness? She's feeling emo. She's been thinking a lot about her own death, recently.

He blinks, startled, and puts a hesitant arm around her. "I - um - Gods. What did you do?"

He's worried, and confused, and a little frightened, but he's doing his best.

She closes her eyes. This is the third time she and Locke are embraced. The first, the day they met, and slept in a pile to kill their solitude, the second, because she was tackling him, trying to save him from his fear, and now this.

“I tried to help a friend - this was the effect it had on me. They’ll be back, my eyes, eventually. In a few months. Get used to it, pup”

She smells him. Pard. Pard pard pard. Even if it is only psychological and has no metaphysical impact on her, it makes her feel better.

He blinks and takes a long, deep breath. He's not going to freak out. Not going to. He told the twins they could trust Anita, so he's going to, no matter how fucking weird it is.

"Gods," he murmurs.

"It's only a color change," she says. "I can see perfectly."

Ok, that's not exactly true - her vision is different, not better, not worse, with the midnight eyes - but she sees things in a see of stars. She's used to it, though.

"Hey, at least I'm not dead." Practically, philosophically.

Well, that gets his attention. He twists around rapidly to look at her and makes a little muffled noise, quickly cut off as he bites down on his tongue, face paling, that might have been a scream. Daaammit.

"Is there any danger of that?" Mildly, but there's a note of worry in his voice if she listens for it.

"No." Half a lie. Not anymore. Because thanks to people like Valen and Alyosha, and even Buzz, to a certain degree, and just the fact that FK is around, she's coming to terms with the inevitable.

"But I'm going to change." Carefully. Because she can't keep on lying to him.

"Everyone changes."

But he knows she's not talking normal change. And that makes him nervous, hard as he's trying not to be.

"Are you alright?" Softly. Because he did pale a whole lot just there.

She presses her head in a spot she hopes isn't broken up, kisses his cheek. "I don't want to lie to you." Softly, again.

"I'm fine." Tensely. And he adds with an attempt at a grin, "I'm fine with lies. Really."

And there is no way he's going to admit to her now that that quick movement might have started a bit of bleeding again. Nothing like before, but he can feel it there.
