And his mother goes to meetings while his father pulls the maid

I didn't really want my first post of 2010 to be bitching about politics, so I'm just going to delete the whole damn thing.

A quote, some links, and vague allusions to what I've been up to. It does not involve cannibalism. Yet. )

meatworld, politics, linkage

I would appreciate your perspective on the health care bill, should you ever post it. Every time I try to understand the health care bill, I just become increasingly confused, so for the time being I've resigned myself to a sort of wandering ignorance. I feel like that's not the spirit of democracy, but it is what it is.

Good lord, you keep a lot of tabs open. I won't ask what you were doing with all of that random crap ;)

Normally I would say Thorne's tabs are a Fuck Of A Lot Of Tabs, but I have recently made friends that have 30-40 open at a time. I have one friend who routinely has 75+. The actual fuck.

That's about a little less than average for me to have open-- no doubt, I had a bunch of fanfiction tabs open as well that I'm not remembering. Once I get past about fifteen tabs, I start losing track of things. 75+ would fuck me up beyond control.

D: I cannot even fathom that. My laptop gets fussy if I have more than four or five open at any one time.

I demand a link to the copy of that picture of a mechanical ostrich.

Mechanical ostrich!

I was totally going to linkpost it at some point.

Twig: Did Flidget ever send you the horrifying octopus vocaloid head?

ThorneScratch: Yes. Oh God. I whimpered and cried.

Twig: You know what I'm feeling like? You know, that page of Nextwave, where he's on the giant gun with the barrel bent back toward him. "Not now, I'm busy."

ThorneScratch: YES. I'm in a meeting with my maker.

Baby you know I got you. Here ya go!

Also, I'm basically turtling from the unpleasantness. Yes, I realize it's not overly productive. But I live in possibly the most liberal city in the country, so.... it's not like I have many people in my vicinity to "work on." Urgh.

And those tabs.... ahahahahaha. NICE WORK.

YOU ARE MY FAVORITE PERSON IN THE WORLD. *loves all over you*

I respect the desire to turtle-- lord knows, that's how I got through the eight years of the previous administration-- and yeah, aside from Prop 8 and Arnold, California is my second favorite state in the country. But I can't help worrying, because I sincerely think turtling and just ignoring everything is one of the root causes of the Deomcrats losing the Massachusetts election, and now is the time that we have to kick back into high gear so we don't lose the long game.

I don't like people touching my computer, but if they're going to do it, I like them to be CONFUSED.

EEEEEEEE.

I know, I know. Believe me. One gets so tired, and it feels like no matter what you do, no progress is being made, and it all just sucks mightily. But we gotta try. You are a lovely person.

I am so glad you found it. I think Brian was bemused! And I love your random texts; I grin like a fool whenever I get them.

I TOTALLY WANT A VISIT. Unfortunately, Valentine's Day weekend has been booked for my cousin's wedding, dammit. I may be there in February or March again, I'll let you know. Billie Joe remains adorable, even when causing you facial trauma.

Please tell me you are building a robo-ostritch armed with buring pinecones to kill people who think they have seen Jesus, cure heart disease, and insult the dutch.

I deleted about three different things to say about the health care bill, so I'll just say,

a> it is a farce,
b> the insidious sycophantic pandering to the insurance companies makes me want to throw up,
c> the laws about taking money for campaigning from industries needs to be changed on a fundamental level
d> California has the right idea, Arnold is a douchebag, didn't we learn anything from Reagan about actors?

Don't tell anyone! It's still in beta form!

I almost put a postscript in my entry saying, "if you have not actually read the bill or do not have an informed opinion on the bill or are merely repeating media sentiment, shut the fuck up and take it elsewhere because I'm in no mood." But I figured I would feel less hostile in the morning, so I'm mostly glad I didn't. ...that said, I admit, my initial reaction to your points was "Yeah, like I've never heard THAT from a busload of Dutch nuns before," and a big sigh. I do work in a field that has some interest in this, you know.

A) Gosh, really? Golly gee!
B) It was never going to be easy, whether it was pandering or plowing ahead.
C) No arguments here.
D) I love California, but it has its own fucking problems.

Edit: Okay, I'm going to apologize to you in advance, because what I wrote is hostile. It isn't fair to take it out on you, just because you caught me in a bad mood. But I am just so damn tired of criticism that doesn't do anything useful, that i sometimes snap without thinking

Yes. Yes, it does. Also, I absolutely agree with your frustration re: the health care issue, because IN ADDITION to the staggering amount of work it costs to get any real change done in that area, there's a huge "it doesn't affect me, so why should I care?" attitude among certain segments of the population for whom lack of health care isn't an issue. I have had multiple conversations with my mom about the health care problem (as both she and my father are physicians) and it makes my head hurt, it's so complicated. No wonder you're in a bad mood.

For what it's worth, I'd love to hear your opinions on the matter. ♥

I know, and this bothers me so much! I mean, I'm upset by people who don't understand the health care situation, but I also understand why, because it is, as you say, so complicated. I can't blame them. But people who just don't care because it doesn't affect them, well. Those are the ones I want to kick in the crotch.

I can't help you with 'I Fought the Law' but I do have a full album of Japanese bands covering Green Day songs. Including the instrumental acoustic guitar version of 'When I Come Around' and an all girl ska band covering 'Nice Guys Finish Last'

If you're interested i can set the link up when I come home from work.

I got it upthread! But that does not mean I'm not interested in your album, because I totally am. And it looks like Morgan and Catt are as well, so now I am batting my eyelashes in your direction.
