It’s not too big! Just a shard, maybe an inch and a half long. Enough to be holy.

Yeah, it was a palace, although I don’t remember living swans. There may have been swan statues or something; I’m terrible with keeping track of that sort of thing. I didn’t get a chance to go through the whole gardens, so there may very well have been ponds and swans that I missed. I was sort of nudging my mother along so we wouldn’t miss the bus.

FFVIII! Okay. Man, let’s see.

I love Quistis/Xu, even though it’s mostly fanon and Xu is a NPC that you get, like, ten lines of dialogue with, tops. I think I just like it because it’s one of the few pairings that gives Quistis a chance at a nice and normal relationship, and I’m ridiculously found of Quistis. I think part of the reason I love the pairing so much is that Harpy wrote a few really fantastic pieces of it, which ruined me forever.

I love the whole Posse relationship. Not, you know, a romance thing, just their friendship because I thought that was really cool and Fuujin’s Posse speech near the end of the game always breaks me up a little bit. They’re all so different but they balance each other out, and I really like that.

I think Squall/Zell is plausible in that they could just be total guys together, and it would be pretty much the closest to a normal relationship that either of them could get. They could understand each other on a SeeD level. They’d probably get in a bunch of fights where Squall would go all cold and isolated and Zell would punch holes in the wall, but they’d be okay afterwards. So, I mean, I can totally see it; it just doesn’t really do anything for me.

I’m not going to say anything about Seifer/Zell because it still doesn’t really make sense to me, but other people like Baco and Squeemu love it with an unholy passion, and I’m afraid of saying anything that will cause them to send their armies towards me. I mean, I can see the fighting and the bang-up dialogue of UST, but when I try to think of either of them being naked with each other, my brain just can’t figure it out.

I have a fanon hypothesis that Quistis’s ill-advised crush on Squall was a direct result of a sexuality crisis and that she should have slept with Seifer to get over it. If she had done that, it would have sent her careening wildly back towards the world of Sapphic love and she wouldn’t have had to use that stupid “big sister” excuse. Seifer just has that effect on people. (I love Quistis, I love Seifer, I just can’t ever see them having a successful relationship. I can see the end of it way before the beginning.)

I think Edea/Cid is sweet, and I wonder how Cid scored a hot babe like Edea. Probably Cid has hidden depths. I kinda like him.

I think Edea/Seifer is creepy but kinda cool.

I think Squall/Ellone is just plain creepy, but the game almost makes it more plausible than Squall/Rinoa.

I think Squall/Rinoa could have been much better if the game didn’t feel the need to push it in our faces for three discs. That was just painful and I wanted them both to just burst into flames by the end of it. The problem was, it could have been good and much more interesting if the game wasn’t constantly shouting “TRUE LOVE! IT’S TRUE LOVE, SEE?!” in my ear every five seconds. Squall is just such a n00b at relationships, and that he chooses to fall for his rival’s ex is just…. Yeah. There’s potential there, they just missed it. I know Rinoa is supposed to draw Squall out, but I think she really only managed it through dumb luck.

I think Seifer/Rinoa is interesting in that summer lovin’ sort of way, and wonder about it. There’s some potential for interesting analysis there. I’d like to see someone take that on.

I feel like I should like Seifer/Squall, and I think they have an interesting relationship in terms of how they define each other and mold each other, but again, it’s not a sexual one that does anything for me.

Uh, I like Kiros/Laguna for no reason. I guess because it’s kind of hilarious imagining the hijinks.
