Weird night

Jan 20, 2008 03:22

First of all I am not going to talk about my life since I have last posted, if you are really curious post something in the comments and I will fill you in.

Tonight I want to talk about what transpired at work tonight.

Alright for those of you who do not know I work for a guy named Paul (Not my housemate) who has his own karaoke business, I am his assistant and when he is doing other stuff I run the karaoke. For the past year we have been working at the diplomat hotel (for those ofyo u who have never been to the [dirty] dip here is a rundown; skeezy, sticky concrete floors, stucco walls a pretty bad dive) when we started the average till at the end of the night was $350-$450.

Tonight was the busiest I have ever seen the dip It was packed and I people were handing in slips nonstop. There was no way we could have everyone sing even once by the end of the night (we counted slips after we ended and it would have taken another 2.5 hours for each person to sing once). So I am just trying to keep everyone happy if they say they are going to leave and want to sing before they go or If I've lost their slip in the chaos, and that is exactly what my job is(especially when I am doing it badly). The weird thing is I had 7 girls tell me they loved me (4 where paulaxe karaoke in general and 3 were me specifically), 2 girls shook my hand and the thing that I'm hung up on like Alex on soup is the one girl kissed my hand(this is what really gets me. I mean I do it occasionally but generally not in public, not to a stranger, I'm still hung up on it). I realize all these people were probably fairly drunk but I was doing my job badly and trying not to be bad enough to drive them away from the bar and they are being (insert big words for over the top here) with their thanks. Long story short (because its late and I'm getting tired) we packed the place then needed security all night there and the was a 15-20 min wait at the bar for beer there was over $1500 in the till at the end of the night and it was only that low because there was only one bartender.

Morals: I still love karaoke, some people boggle me, and almost all bar managers are dicks

Shameless plug: Paulaxe karaoke Thur and sat at the dip (I may start running Saturdays solo) and Sundays music trivia at squirltooth alices
