Brief Berlin update

Sep 19, 2009 20:58

Buenos noches -

It's about 830pm Sat in Berlin. I just got back from the race shenanigans a little while ago and wanted to share a brief update before sleepy time. Can I just say that Berlin is totally frikkin' awesome?!? You should do it. Yes, you too there, in the back! Seriously, it was great. I don't know where I got a figure of 2000 skaters - it was WAY more than that, around 7000.  Yeah, ***7,000***.

I would like to share some thanks - first, thanks to everyone that sent positive wishes & good vibes my way. Thanks to Timo, my friend on the inside ;), he's done Berlin several times. Timo & I met on that Finland skate trip in 2006. He gave me lots of good info about the race course, advice on skating in such a large crowd, and helped me navigate the registration process as well.

Most importantly, I want to thank everyone that helped me train - encouraging me to skate more laps, giving me advice on my skating, and skating or riding laps with me. I couldn't have done it without the help of the following people in particular: Brian Shicoff, Rene C, Rene F, Carla.

I hope you'll be happy to hear that it paid off! I beat my previous best marathon time by a little over ***15 minutes*** - my time was 1:46:46!
