Here in Indianapolis Indiana (sigh) we are getting part of a winter storm that has been very bad for northern states, but here in Indianapolis the forecast is for 1 inch of snow, and the way the local weather stations are covering this 1 inch of snow, you would think we are preparing for a blizzard of untold magnitude. Seriously. I guess it is a slow news day around here. 1 inch of snow? Really? Even I can't use 1 inch of snow to say it's unsafe for me to drive to work, or that I need to leave early to get home safely.
So now it's Friday, Dec 21, 2012. End of the world sometime today???
I got busy yesterday afternoon with clients and never finished this post.
Today's is the 14th anniversary of my Father's death. Usually I realize this as soon as I wake up on this particular anniversary, but today I didn't think of it until I got to work. With the snow from last night, and everbody knows I don't like driving in snow, and the fact that my partner told me my car windows are covered in ice, my thoughts automatically rerouted to the weather and what my drive into work this morning would be like.
Of course I can't find my winter gloves, haven't had any reason to wear them until today, so I felt like I froze my fingers with the ice scrapper. I started the car early and left home about 15 minutes ahead of my normal time. I think we got an inch of snow, but the wind speed is high today, so there is a lot of blowing snow too.
But when I got to the interstate the traffic wasn't bad, and the streets were not very bad, so I came to work without any road and/or traffic problems. But all I could think of was this is a perfect day to call in sick, especially since it's Friday. Besides, hardly anybody is in the building today. But I have an installation going on today, and one of my closest work buddies in in that group, and if I can help him by being here than it's fine with me. This work day will end soon enough at 4pm unless the Mayan calendar say's otherwise.
And lets not even get me started on the Mayan Calendar ending today and the world, as we know it, will end today. The only thing that ever ended for me on Dec 21st was my Dad's life, from cancer, in 1998. Of course he is on my mind more than usual, these past few days, which is normal. Well I guess it's normal, since I have experienced it for the last 13 years.
It's humerous and a little sad to know just how stupid people are with this "end of the world, mayan calendar" crap. People are so gullible these days. They need to turn off their TV's and computers and go get some fresh air, exercise, and/or read a good book.
After I leave work today I won't return until next Wednesday, giving me a nice 4 day holiday weekend. Then I finish out next week, work New Years eve dayshift, then have the rest of that week off work. Then come back to work on January 7, 2013 and try to accomplish my diet/health resolutions once and for all with a brand new year ahead of me.
Just say'in.....
Merry Christmas!!
