I give up, plain and simple

So the past 2 weeks have sucked. A week ago Mark was in St. Vincent North emergency as the doctors thought  he may be having a stroke and admitted him for test.  1 cat scan, 1 chest x-ray, 1 MRI, 1 cardiac  stress echo test, and 1 ultrasound on his carotid artery, showed no problems and he  was dismissed the next morning.  Whatever was  causing a part of his face to be numb and tight, was never figured out, and it all went away shortly after he was  admitted, thank goodness.

Then last Saturday, upon arriving at our weekend home, we discovered a washing machine water hose had ruptured and destroyed the downstairs bedrooms, laundry room floor, main bathroom floor, living room carpet, and all my personal affects in my bedroom, including clothes, personal items, wall hangings, television, and furniture.  Our insurance company contacted ServPro which is a Fire and Water restoration company and they arrived in 2 hours and then spent the  next 10 hours stabilizing the house.

My bedroom ceiling had collapsed and 2  inches of  water was in the downstairs bedrooms.  The company then proceeded to pump out the water, remove debris, and they had to remove the remaining ceiling, carpeting, and install 30 high performance industrial strength blowers and dehumidifiers through the house.  Because of the water saturation the blowers would suck in the wet  air and would  cause a heat exhaust, and the  temperature of inside the house hit nearly 150 degrees hot, which was needed to start drying out the  house, the structure, and will take 7 to 9 days to accomplish. They told us  it would be  the following Monday before  they could really dig in and see the extent of the damage.  Also that they would need daily access to monitor the situation (mold, air quality, their equipment).

So yesterday they arrived and were there all day removing debris and other damaged materials, and due  to the heat I stayed outside for  the  most part.  Then a man came out looking for me and I knew that wasn't going to be good.  He set down and explained that  the way the water came down caused the wall's installation to be soaked, and the only way they could get to it  to remove it was  to take out the  walls thus stripping the  room to it's studs.  I actually wasn't surprised at all.  Then in the other bedroom they had to remove, from the  floor upwards about  2  feet all along the perimeter of the room, the wall and insulation.  Also  had to remove the stair way carpet, laundry room floor, main bathroom floor, and they have put huge fans in the corners of the living room, and pulled  up the corner carpets, so that the blower nozzles can dry out under the carpet.  They seem to think perhaps the living room carpet can be saved, or perhaps it can be saved, and that it can then be re-stretched back into place and professionally cleaned and be as good as new.  I  don't know, but  we will see.

It  looks like a bomb went off downstairs.  Everything in my room, and I had a lot  of  stuff, is  destroyed,  just everything. I was  just  stunned.
We were both in such a panic and obviously I would be the one to find the water shutoff valve, which is under the crawl space and I don't like tight spaces, but in my panic I never once thought about being scared, only to find the main shutoff valve, which took some time but finally found it.  Then I just stood in my room letting the water hit my face as I looked up where my ceiling use to be, then realized I was  standing in about 2 inches  of  water, and the realization came over  me that  this room and all my possessions were destroyed.  Now the room is  stripped down to the  studs, no ceiling, no walls, no carpet, and the bed is wrapped up in plastic in an attempt to dry it in the hopes  that it might be saved.  Of course  the mattress and box springs are also destroyed due to the water  and mold.

We have an insurance deductible of $1,000.00 so there goes my money for my new camera.  In fact, I feel like my new  camera is a lost cause as something happens every time I get a little money saved up, so I give up.  Plain and simple.  I just give up.  No more thinking of a new camera, no more thoughts of an eventual vacation, no more thoughts on getting some money saved up, no more.  I just give up.  That's all.

Just Say'in.
