Bing It On - The Second Try

I saw an advert for the "Bing It On" challenge on my Xbox 360 dash a little over a month ago and decided to give it a go; Microsoft, (the advertisers) state this information about the challenge: "in blind tests, using the UK's most popular searches, more people picked Bing searches than Google."

After giving the challenge a go I found that Bing lost two to three, to be honest, I predicted it. I own a Windows Phone and built into the hardware is a search button; it will only use Bing for searches (it cannot be changed in settings or by modding, no matter how much I've tried!) and I already knew how woeful it is as a search engine; A shame as I am a fan of Microsoft's other products and would gladly use Bing otherwise.

My friends consider Bing to be a joke, it's definately nowhere near as useful or accurate as Google. After finding out how easy it is (compared to Google and alternatives) to find adult content in reasonably "safe" search terms, (after turning safe-search off, of course.) we made and played for a short time a game on if relative search terms such as game character names (ie. Selphie) would bring back porn or not? Majority, at the time was a yes. :-p

I, again after seeing an advert decided to try Bing It On again, my results? A four to one win for Google:

OK, so some of those were a little obscure. The "Seed Test" (being a refference to Final Fantasy VIII) worked well with Google, Bing could only offer me results for speedtest.net and the like. The term "GiffGaff Data Policies" was a little tougher to call as both sets of results had the desired information; only Google ranked it higher and was easier to find the page(s) at the top of the results. "Radio Bam" won for Bing for exactly the same reasons, both results were mainly the same only Bing had more releveant results towards the top.

I return to Google, knowing I'm probably using the better of the two search engines for both my searches and interests. I however wouldn't be put of from trying Bing every so often and would definately try Bing It On again at a later date, just to see if anything improves.
