Overdue update

OMG the past month has been insane. Mostly due to the massive amount of work I've had to do for school. Luckily, the quarter is almost over - classes are over and next week I have a couple finals papers to write and an exam to grade and then I'm done! So here's a quick update on my life:

  • My second year paper is finally coming together. I have a semi-polished draft due next week and I feel comfortable about it. I'm hoping to get a lot more work done on it over spring break so I won't have to stress too much next quarter.
  • I'm staying in California for Spring Break. I wish I could go visit OKC and Dallas, but I know I won't get any work done if I do that and I need to get a lot of work done on my second year paper. Instead, the last weekend of spring break, Justin and I are going to Las Vegas again, this time we'll spend more time at the southern end of the strip since we didn't get a chance to make it down there last time. We're both really looking forward to it - we had so much fun last time
  • Justin's in Seattle right now, interviewing for a graduate assistantships to help pay for grad school. He was officially accepted to the school last week, which is really exciting! If he gets one of the GA positions, I think we are definitely going. He left on Tuesday night and won't get back until Saturday night. I miss him so much - we haven't spent a night apart in a long time. I've been able to sleep, but its not as fun going to sleep and waking up in an empty bed.
  • I'm gonna start taking a rowing class at the gym next quarter. Our gym got these new rowing machines that they'll use for group rowing classes. I went to one tonight and it was intense, but a lot of fun. My spin class was immediately after so I was really tired by the end of the work out, but it felt good. I need to make sure I find somewhere nice to continue working out if I move to Seattle next year.
  • I bought a NetBook (I'm so ridiculous). I had been saving up money to buy a new macbook pro this summer but since I found the cheap one last month, I had some money left over. The macbook pro is nice, but its big and not as easy to carry around and there are many times when all I need is a word processor to do my work. I found it at Fry's on a good sale. It's an HP Mini 1000 with 1GB RAM, 60GB HDD, 1.6 GHz Atom Processor, 10" screen, and Windows XP. I especially like it because the keyboard is nearly normal size - one of the biggest complaints I had about netbooks was the tiny keyboard which I always had trouble typing on. This keyboard is really easy to type on. I'm gonna leave XP on it for now, just in case I need it for the networks class I'm taking next quarter, but I've successfully installed a liveCD version of Ubuntu on a flash drive and can boot from it on the netbook and it seemed everything would work fine if I decided to install Ubuntu for reals. Its so cute and I've really enjoyed it.
