Community Supported Agriculture Stuff

This weekend was my first weekend of getting vegetables from my farm.  The farm is Wolf Pine farm.  All the vegetables are grown organically and the farm is only ten minutes away from my house by car.  I don't have enough time to ride my bike to it after work on Fridays, though that would have been fun.

I got a red lettuce, a green lettuce, a third of a pound of mesclun, a chinese cabbage, some bok choy, a bundle of cilantro, a garlic stalk and some radishes.  On my way home, I thought of all the ways I could cook my new vegetables.  I ended up making cilantro pesto and some ginger potstickers with some of the chinese cabbage.  Of course I've been eating salads with radishes thrown in.  Tonight I think I will get some raviolis on my way home and stirfry the bok choy with the garlic, some tomatoes, olive oil, and white wine.  Then I can mix it all up.  I will probably save the chinese cabbage for next week and make a soup out of it.

The farm looked beautiful and green to me.  There is a rutted road through the crops that goes down to the Mousam river.  I can't wait to take Lotus there so she can walk on it.  The people working seemed nice.  I was in a bit of a hurry.  I'm not sure why but next time I will slow down.  One of the apprentices is offering a kim chee making class on Saturday.  I was slightly interested until I talked to my friend Loraine who reminded me that I already had lots of things going on.  My mother used to make saurkraut and if kim chee making is as involved as that process, I really don't have time.

I was a bit disappointed that Trey didn't come with me that first evening to pick up our vegetables.  I got home from the library all ready to take him and there was a hole in our house.  He was working on replacing the door that he broke down earlier this month.  Which is a good thing.  I just wished he would have picked a different day.  Oh well.  I am hooping that he will take ownership of the vegetables too and create tasty food out of them.
