But it's funny you mention staying out of Orlando. *None* of the major attractions are actually *in* Orlando. People approaching from the north and northeast see Orlando and immediately think Cinderella Castle will be looming over them, and stop and ask for directions without even realizing they've still got another 20 minutes to go at least before they see the first WDW exit.
Some people think WDW and Sea World are the same company, too, and think they're like right next door to each other so you can walk between them. It takes about 10 minutes to get from Sea World to the WDW area, traffic permitting, and another 10 beyond that to get to US 27, as you saw. When coming home from work, though, I take *US 192*, which you would've passed at that halfway point. US 27's just an easier way to get to my place (which is about 10 minutes west of WDW) if you're coming from Tampa ^^
