Petition: Get rid of racist Forward editor

A member of my synagogue posted this on our discussion list:

Hello beloved jewish community,

I just signed the petition "Jewish Daily Forward: Batya Ungar Sargon Must Resign" and wanted to see if you could help by adding your name.

I am by no means an expert on this and yet I know holding leaders accountable to the highest standard is hard-but must happen.

Here is text and some comments from the web page, explaining the very serious problem:

• Batya Ungar Sargon has systematically used her platform as the opinions editor of the Forward to target black and brown women, and pit white Jews against Black and Brown folks. Her desire to “show both sides” has allowed a platform for anti blackness, rape apologists, and fascism. She must resign.

• Batya blinded herself to how bad-faith and racist her writing has become

• Racism to her means more clicks, that’s all she wants. Let’s not give her that.
  
• Batya is violently anti-Black.

• Batya has used her position and power to dox Black Jews and Jews of Color for years now. She is abusive and her continued presence on the staff of the JDF is dangerous to many in our community.

• Under Batya Ungar-Sargon’s editorship, Jewish Daily Forward has become a generator of antiblack, Islamophobic, disingenuous both sides right-wing clickbait. It is everything with online media today, and is a drain on the Jewish media landscape. Ungar-Sargon has got to go.

• Batya wouldn't publish my article on Islamophobia in the Jewish community cause she of all people said she thought I was a racist (she told me this in an email). She told me she wouldn't publish me ever. She seems to have a problem with a lot of people. I really didn't appreciate her behavior towards me especially after I had given her a story on the Elder of Ziyon and introduced her to a synagogue where like the man who is the Rabbi is like a father to me. We took an Uber back from there together. After all that she gets upset over some bs on Twitter and starts calling me a racist and says she will never publish me. The woman is not ok.

• Batya is a huge disappointment. The forward was something we used to be proud of as Jews. Under her it’s a right wing racist Islamophobic mouthpiece. She must resign.

• We must call out and hold leaders accountable and ourselves as well to racism, bias and more.

• Batya fabricated information in at least one story I"m aware of, singling out a Jewish woman of color she was slated to be speaking with on a panel. The Forward was happy to print lots of articles rebutting Sargon's account, thus drawing more readers, but without ever apologizing for the false depiction, a real low in editorial ethics. That was not new behavior in print, and apparently she has struck again. She should resign.
