I don't remember the actual fall, I blacked out. But I do remember being at teh top, getting ready to jump. And I do remember being at the bottom, with everyone gathered around looking scared to death. I remeber lying on the ground while the gang broke down trees and put them through the bottom and arms of tshirts to make a stretcher. I remember thinking how nice that I didn't have to hike back down the trail, as I was very tired. I remember stopping at the restrooms on the way out, and being laid on the bench outside of them. I had the innards of a camera case around my neck as a makeshift c-collar. I wanted to go to sleep b/c I was so tired, but Dad wouldn't let me. He made me keep talking to him. He said if I want to sleep i could go into a coma,so I had to keep talking. They put me in the back of a station wagon, still on the stretcher, and drove me to the hospital. I remember mom and dad telling a story about someone in college who was in an accident and was going in and out of consciousness, and she kept waking up and laughing because the "day of the week underwear" she had on didn't match the day of the week, and her mother had warned her about wearing clean underwear in case you are in an accident.
We were at the hospital for what seemed like forever. So many x-rays and tests and shots. It was not fun.
The following week I was supposed to go on a canoing trip with Girl Scouts, but I wasn't allowed to go. Hurricane Hugo came through that week, so it was wet and miserable for those who went. I was so sore and bruised. I looked like I had been beaten, on my body anyway. I still have a scar on my knee where I scraped it on the way down.

Thanks. I was really curious if you remembered the actual fall and you said you didn't. Rosepurr has told me how terrifying it was for the whole family; I was curious how you remembered it.

Nope, no fall remembered, though I think that would be something that would be neat to remember.

It was the summer before 5th grade, for me, while we were living in Grayson, so like 1989...?

Not long afterwards I broke my left arm playing on the couch. It was just one of those years... :)
