Heed my warning, friends.
Those of you who have been around a bit, might remember the episode just prior to last years Gulf Wars.... The noble steed, who had carried me to many a long distance event, had to be put down, after a long life of 16 years and 250,000 miles. I was in a dither, but was VERY excited to be able to finally (bad credit and all) be able to get into a new-to-me vehicle. And a shiny one at that!
OK, so I went to the Ford dealer, hoping to trade in the noble Nissan for a small Ford truck of some kind... and was put in a Chevy Cavalier.... "Best I can do now, Ms. W, considering your credit. Come back to me in 6 months, and we'll get you into a truck---- guaranteed!" Except, of course, six months later I had my stroke, and didn't think it wise to get into even MORE debt.
So, here I am 16 months after buying the 2004 Chevy Cavalier, finding myself facing a repair bill of $990. The damn thing is 3 years old, and has 32,000 miles on it. Its BS warrenty expired in December 2006 - at 3 years old. And the slave cylinder is shot. Gone. Doesn't work anymore. And, in this marvel of American engineering, the whole frakking engine has to be taken apart to get to the bloody thing. The mechanic tells me that the slave cylinder goes out often on these type cars, and is always wondering why they are built this way. But, the fact remains, that this engineering "advance" is making a $300 repair into a $900 repair....
I still owe far too much to even consider trying to trade it in. End result, any plans for a real vacation this year are borked. ::sighs:: If it weren't for bad luck....
