Roz plans no whine for a week….
OK, so it will probably be mighty difficult to do, but I am going to give it a try anyway. I was just reading over the past few weeks in my journal, and noted that I have been doing not much more than whine in all of my posts. I have decided that the first step to getting happy is to not whine. So there you go. Hehe ( Read more... )

Actually, the two things I'm in the market for aren't on your page, but I expect they wouldn't be hard to do and I'd rather give you my money than someone else: a small Pel/Lau medallion that is recognizable but not ostentatious and a set of Viking brooches (the domed kind). Thoughts?

I certainly appreciate the thought. Yes, both of those items would be reasonable projects for me.

I have not done a Pel/Laurel medallion, and quite honestly I think those that are on the market resemble drink coasters (at least to me, but then they are kind of the SCA standard stuff…). Good for when you want to throw your weight around, but not generally period. Did you have anything particular in mind, period and materials wise? I gather that you are also in that 14th Century timeframe (from what I noticed at Pennsic), which is not necessarily a period with which I am familiar. I can do some research, or even better, if you have seen something similar to what you desire, I can rework the design into what you want. I once did a Pelican badge, fashioned after the Dunstable Swan Jewel, that was one of my favorite projects. It was also one of the very first objects I carved. That means it was pretty damn crude, way too heavy, and the enameling sucked big time. I need to revisit that piece…. Anyway, I can do a smallish (size of a half dollar?) Laurel surrounding a Pelican, or something similar. The Laurel on the website is sterling silver and about the right size. I get $85 for them, (they come with a thin sterling chain). With the addition of the Pelican, add another $30 to $50 (I will probably cast them separately and then assemble, and will give a discount for the two at once….). That will also mean I will have a Pelican available seperately, which is something I need to add to my line anyway.

As to the Viking brooches, again, do you have anything particular in mind? One of my friends here in the South Downs has a set that she made before her elevation that are particularly nice. They really aren’t after any period pieces (at least not that I have seen examples for) but are pretty neat in that they have the Laurel and the Pel in them. I will try to get pictures, if that is something you might be interested in. If you are looking for something along the lines of what Master Raymond has, I could probably do those, but I would need to carve them (which can take a fair amount of time….). If you would be interested in plain planished silver/bronze, those I can do in a snap. That was how the above mentioned ones were crafted (and they really do look mighty nice….).

I might even be able to have these done by the time I fly thru DC on my way to Miami…. :-p
