(whoa...what a twist i was just about to post a negative post about how i am sucking this whole school thing up...but now after reading a friends 'negative turned positive' post i am going the opposite route. )

Spent almost my entire spring break last week filming into the wee hours of the night (about 4am on average) (sipping rockstar every hour to stay focused...first time i've had rockstar...and it tastes awful, still have 1 and 1/2 cans left too. Save that for Finals week lol)
on the other hand, I got all my filming done. Which means that I am on target for finishing my film for our first production in animation. Unlike prob half my class...(history of that a little later)

What is this production you ask? Well, I am doing a paint on glass animation. Now, animation for film is 24 frames per second. and our film has to be around 1 minute. Thats about 1440 frames, meaning 1440 individual images. BUT, my film is closer to two minutes. Thats 2880 frames. Now for your frame of mind/reference, the majority of animation like Disney's movies are shot on 2's, that's 2 frames for every drawing, effectively halfing the number of drawings that you have to complete (but its still a lot!) I shot most of my film on 3's (and upwards to 6's). Now that gives us a range of 960 to 480 individual drawings/paintings that i completed in a week and a half...in a dark room with 2 massive lights next to my head, a 35mm film camera less than a foot above my head, and myself hunched over trying to move paint around on a glass surface before it dries and i have to replace it.
(picts of that to come laters)

now the history lesson. I am one of the few probably going to finish my production in my class. Now the process is this: Film it onto film, get back a workprint that you cut/tape up into your picture lock, which you send away to get digatized so you can edit your sound to it and get your composer a copy so he/she can write a soundtrack, then you take all that and go to a sound mixer to mix all the sounds together, then that mix is sent to the fotokem (the place that processes our film) which cuts your negative to fit your picture lock and add the sound. then you get a release print and the school keeps your negative.....in the past classes only 2 or 3 would finish out of the entire class...and even now some are in their 3rd year working on thesis and have never finished their 1st production.

I Won't Be One of THOSE!!

thus, the long nights, but finishing my shooting!
plus, i did visit my relatives who live in los angeles and went to Good Friday and Easter services with them...other than that and walking and biking on the beach, i simply read, took a few naps, lay in the sun/shade, and put my feet in the grass(oooooohhh ya)...and they fed me! :) no hw whatsoever...i didn't want to come back to school.

Now i am stressing out about applying for scholarships and internships, but on the other hand i am all set for housing which i was worried about for next year and i just asked a internship place whose deadline i missed if I could still apply and they gave me the go-ahead! Yea! thats what is prompting this late night post...getting my stuff together to apply!

Also, despite my having to ride city bus and pay a little $ and waiting an hour for my prof to show up with my recommendation letter...i got to see the inside of sony imageworks! (not all, just bits and pieces...he is giving our class a tour later in the year...sweeet)
and now i no longer fear the bus system in LA (wellll...not that much anyways)
