Neglect

I'm afraid my little old Livejournal is going to become increasingly more neglected. Hardly anyone blogs here anymore who used to blog when I first started out, so maybe nobody cares. But I feel a little bit sad about that.

I have a couple of interesting other blog projects going on. There's my professional blog (although it does cross the line into personal too) at http://christinewhitley.tumblr.com -- that's mostly parenting stuff and posts for people who care about what's happening with Chicago Public Schools.

I am getting a steady little trickle of traffic over there. My numbers are high enough now that they can't ALL be my friends and relatives. I still need a kick-ass, mind-blowing topic to post in the next few days. An article is coming out in a local print magazine (Time Out Chicago Kids) in a few days. It mentions me and my blog and I want something that will really engage people. It probably should be something related to schools since that's the topic of the article.

I was thinking about a post about my scrooge-like attitude around school holiday parties.

I pitched a blog idea to another local online magazine (ChicagoNow) to write a parenting blog and so I am going to be doing that. It's unpaid but I can link to my professional info in the byline so it's basically bartering my writing for advertising. That could grow into a paid thing but only if I get 10,000 hits per month for 3 months in a row. That sounds like an astronomical amount, like it could NEVER happen. So I am not counting on that for money. Maybe I'll get some clients from it.

Work is happening...slowly....but it's happening.
