I was actually wondering who killed Fabian and Gideon a while before DH came out. According to the HP Lexicon, it was Dolohov. Which isn't to say that Bellatrix didn't have any role in it. And post-DH, I realized that Fred and George were maybe kind of named after them...same first initials and all.

I think Rowling confirmed that they were sort of named for Gideon and Fabian when she confirmed that Gideon and Fabian were Molly's brothers.

Um, I'm not sure if the book states who killed Fabian and Gideon. I remember Moody saying they were taken by 50 Death Eaters, or something. Woe.
