I'm glad I withdrew from the Star Wars fandom (and from all fandoms, really) this year, since it allowed me to approach "The Last Jedi" with a mostly open mind and very few pet theories. And for the most part, I really liked it. (
Some spoilery thoughts )
I was wondering what you were up to these days and went to pay you a visit here.
I'm glad we seem to have enjoyed TLJ quite in the same way! Yes, the Rey and Kylo Ren interaction was very well done. I actually love how Kylo Ren's failure to grow holds a warped mirror to Rey's growth. They're so similar and so different!
I still definitely ship Finn/Poe ;) They're holding hands at the end, they really are (when they witness Rey lifting the rocks to get them out). And Oscar Isaac plays smitten and gay so well, it would be sad not to reward it. The interaction between Rey and Finn, Rose and Rey, Poe and Finn, etc feels full of promises, especially when you imagine all the ways you can write them as very close (but possibly jealous) without making it necessarily sexual...
I want to write a crossover where Rose meets Eowyn! Not only the both of them have a terrible hero crush, but they have nearly exactly the same line about the very small number of survivors.
I'd also love to witness Rey meeting Granny Weatherwax, talk about two characters being aware of the darkness inside (and knowing themselves in a mirror line). Leia could come, too.
The movie was also incredibly beautiful. Luke's twin suns scene at the end... WOW. And I'm like you, I always was more a Leia and Han girl myself, but Luke really stood out here. I can't wait to read any fic you have about him and especially about Leia! Also agree about wishing they could have recast her (but seeing the nearly violent reactions of some fans right now when there's something they don't like, I don't think it would have been remotely possible).
So true about the women! For my part, the fact that I don't really like Holdo (as you said, she should have told the crew, and I hated that she wouldn't listen to Poe's plan and called Finn 'a Stormtrooper' - I still admire her) makes it even more powerful: women are numerous and diverse enough in this film for us to get complex, ambiguous characters.
I loved how the movie made all the good guys grow in some way. Also loved how it makes gives you all the elements but lets you decide by yourself whether you like a character or not.
I guess I'll stop here! Just glad to find another TLJ fan.
Safe travel to Island, enjoy yourself!

I am working on a story. It was going to be about Luke, and he still plays a prominent role, but it's really about Leia now. She's banging Poe, so I don't know how many people will actually read it, but I'm pretty much writing it for myself. I like it so far, but I don't know how to end it. :\
Anyway, I loved Iceland. I want to go back, maybe in a year or two. And maybe not in the winter, since I'd like to rent a car and drive around, and I'm a nervous driver in the snow.
