I had this idea that if I went to work an hour early, I could leave an hour early and still have enough daylight for a walk. But it was -11 when I woke up this morning, so I don't know if that walk is going to happen.
Mountain #3: Mount Hunger in Ashburnham, MA (1,440 feet)
A pretty easy hike, rendered only slightly challenging by the fact that the mountain was covered with snow. The base of the mountain is covered with mountain laurel, so I'm sure it's absolutely beautiful in late spring, or whenever mountain laurel blooms. There's no view at the summit, but if you continue on the Mid-State Trail a little ways, you come to a ledge with a fantastic view of Mount Watatic.
Isn't that pretty? The closer mountain is Watatic, which I've been climbing about every other weekend since mid-November.
And that's me! My brother got me hiking poles for my birthday. Good boy. I got athletic equipment for my birthday! A phrase I never thought I'd utter let alone be giddy over.
This is actually from Chesterfield Gorge, where I hiked the day before. The caretaker was there and his dog, Dervish, kept following me and my friend around, bringing us sticks so we would play fetch with her. When there weren't any sticks to be found, Dervish tried to steal our hiking sticks. She was good company. :)
Saturday, which is my birthday, I've signed up to do a morning hike, which I'll probably regret until it's over, at which point I'll be glad I woke up at the crack of dawn and schlepped down to Massachusetts in single digit degree (if that) weather.
