Ugh, that moment in STID annoyed me so much. Even though it gave me a new ship to play with, it just showed me how little the writers understood the character of Jim Kirk. Even if he is a colossal flirt, I just can't see him sleeping with a member of his crew and then FORGETTING about her. Are we supposed to believe that a man that callous could suddenly turn around and become the Best Starship Captain Ever? Because I don't. Jim's development as a leader was somewhat convincing in XI, much less so in STID.
TOS!Kirk was more of a serial monogamist, or became one as the series progressed. In a few earlier episodes, he seems not to know how to even talk to women. (See: Ruth in "Shore Leave.") It was kind of sweet, especially given the reputation he has today. Later, it seemed he fell in love with woman after woman. But there was always something respectful about it. In many ways, the series has regressed. *sigh*
Anyway, I'm really glad that you liked this. I told myself I was going to try to write more f/f.
