The idea of women cross dressing in men's clothes is always problematic since women can and do routinely wear male clothing or clothing based on men't styles. There's no taboo involved. Even when it comes to underwear: t-shirts and tank tops have both moved from men only to being thoroughly appropriated by women, and the only difference between men's jockey shorts and boxers and women's panties, "boy shorts" and gym shorts are the presence or absence of a slit in the front. And since the slit is not exactly the most sexy aspect of the garment, no big loss.

When I was in college, my dorm was horrendously hot, and all winter we had to strip down from our warm sweaters to summer-weight clothing as soon as we got inside. The fad of the time was to wear men's boxers as shorts. We wore them over our underwear--not in place of it--but the point is, no taboo.

Now "Gaila walking around topless in Sulu's silk boxers" does sound sexy, but more from the combo of topless and silk. Boxers instead of silk panties doesn't seem too significant.

Which is not to say, "Don't write it," because you should write it, absolutely. I'm just saying the lack of taboo is probably why the whole thing doesn't get written much.

That's pretty much exactly what I said to somebody else in the DreamWidth version of this entry. :)

I think it would be the topless thing and the fact that she's wearing his underwear that makes it somewhat kinky. Because women going topless outside the bedroom may be legal in some parts, but it's still pretty taboo.
