Almost went with Sarah Connor, but "Fringe" is fresher in my mind than "The Sarah Connor Chronicles," so we have Agent Olivia Dunham today. Why Dunham? Well, I've loved her since the episode - I think it was the one with the exploding heads - in which Broyles accused her of being too emotionally invested in her cases, and she called him out on his sexism and told him that her emotional involvement was one of the things that made her a good agent and he can fuck right off. Olivia is awesome, and I love that, for all her empathy, she's given the sort of stoicism and origins that are usually reserved for male protagonists. (By contrast, in the first two seasons at least, Peter's origins have more fairy tale elements, and he's usually the one in need of rescuing. By Olivia.)

Olivia doesn't need to beat people up to prove her strength (although she does). She proves it with her integrity and her perseverance.

And, considering what happens on "Fringe" on a regular basis, the woman must have an iron stomach, so ... kudos for that as well.
