The Spock/Uhura story got smutty after all. *g* It's 1,600 words and growing, and I'm hoping to have it done this weekend.
A friend in Chicago invited me to stay with her for a little bit, probably some time toward the end of October. I'm thinking about how I'll get there (bus vs. train vs. car) and what I'll do once I'm there. She works at home, which is nice. If I drive I could stop in Madison and/or Milwaukee either on the way there or on the way back.
I was too glum to write or read last night (omg, "The Giver" is sad!) so I marathoned the rest of "Glee" Season 1.
- Wow, Shelby is horrible. She knew Jesse would break Rachel's heart, and yet she encouraged him to get close to her. She drew Rachel to her, then effectively turned her back. Why? Because Rachel is sixteen and no longer a small child she can mold? She either condones or turns a blind eye to the fact that her students are going out of their way to harass Rachel. Um. And this person gets to adopt Beth??? Does adoption even work that way? She just shows up at the hospital, points to an unwanted baby and says, "That one"? Ugh.
- I can't stand Will either, and I'm not even sure why anymore. I know that when the kids sang "To Sir, With Love" I felt like gagging. I've sort of gotten over the fact that he planted drugs on Finn. I just don't like him.
- I love Sue, though. OMG, I love Sue.
- I like Emma too. I like all her bows; she looks like a present. *g*
- I don't believe in Finn and Rachel's love, but you know what, they're teenagers. They think in extremes. So ... whatever. He says he loves her. Okay. It was sweet when she kissed him on the stairs. Kind of irked, though, that they were the only ones whose solos we saw at Regionals. I gather that was just a snippet of their performance, but still.
- Still don't like Kurt so much, but I love his dad. It's weird, though. I mean, I like what he said to Finn. I think someone on a popular series like "Glee" needed to say those words and say them loudly. At the same time, I felt so badly for Finn. He's sixteen, and it seemed as if Burt, like Shelby with Rachel, was writing him off. Just dismissing him because he fucked up badly. I wish I could have seen a reconciliation of some sort. I mean, Kurt and Finn seem to have reconciled quickly, which is good, but... I guess it would have taken away some of the impact when Finn tells Will he's a father figure. *gag*
- On the other hand, I sincerely hope Quinn went home with Mercedes instead of her mother. "Your dad was cheating, so I kicked him out of the house" ≠ "Your dad is a misogynist asshole, so I kicked him out of the house." I like the Quinn/Mercedes friendship. I like Quinn and Mercedes, period.
- It seems weird that we haven't seen Rachel's dads since the first episode. You'd think they'd been attuned to their daughter's moods, and getting increasingly protective of her. You'd think they'd show up for her performances.
- Can't quite put my finger on why, but something about juxtaposing "Bohemian Rhapsody" and Quinn's labor made me squirm. It did not strike me as tasteful.
