Plan: laze around in pajamas, shower, laze around in clothes, heat up frozen tempura, watch "The Two Towers," observe the stroke of midnight, bed. Not as much fun as last year, but I'm in a supremely lazy mood.

1. What did you do in 2009 that you'd never done before?

I climbed a sand dune.

....

*blanks*

Oh, I saw a baseball game live. A Saint's game. Which was pretty boring, but the company was mostly good! My friend and I left early and went out for dessert, so that was nice!

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

HAhahahahaaaaa. NO. I believe my resolution was to write considerably less fan fiction, and well, you can see how that went!

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

Yup. A few friends from college and a few friends from high school.

4. Did anyone close to you die?

No, fortunately.

5. What countries did you visit?

None, alas. Though I got to Michigan for the very first time.

6. What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009?

A full-time job in a library. A little more financial stability (ha). The beginnings - at least - of an original novel. Sex.

7. What date from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

1/6/09: flew into NYC for the first time since 2005
1/20/09: Obama's inauguration
7/4/09: had a v. nice Independence Day, watching the sunset on the beach with my family

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

Maintaining a solid average in school, landing my internship, writing a 26,000-word story (of fan fiction, but still - I was so afraid I'd flake out half-way through!)

9. What was your biggest failure?

Didn't get any work done on my original fiction. Spent too much money.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

I had the flu in October, and I'm starting to wonder about my pinky, which is looking a little swollen - but, nah, I've been okay.

11. What was the best thing you bought?

My beautiful new MacBook Pro! (Tickets to NY were purchased in 2008.)

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?

My mom's. There've been times when I was pissed off at her, but I thought she went above and beyond for my sister this past summer and autumn. Seeing her sacrifices thrown back in her face earlier this month was - hard. And it's one of the reasons I just don't want to talk to my sister right now.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?

Much of the media. Entirely too many of our elected officials, particularly Joe Lieberman.

14. Where did most of your money go?

Rent and tuition. Though, technically, most of that wasn't my money. It was the bank's.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

Visiting my BFF in New York! My mom's new puppy! Hanging out on the beach in Michigan! Obama's inauguration! (His presidency has been disappointing, but he steal beats the alternative.) Star Trek! ALA Convention!

16. What song will always remind you of 2009?

All of Green Day's "21st Century Breakdown." Also "This Tornado Loves You" by Neko Case and "Antebellum" by Vienna Teng.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? Happier. :)
ii. thinner or fatter? A little thinner, though not as thin as I was this summer.
iii. richer or poorer? Poorer. :(

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?

Traveling. Reading. Exercising.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?

Spending.

20. How did you spend Christmas?

Squeeing over Yuletide stories, then leftover Chinese food and Star Trek on DVD. If you want to know how I spent Hanukkah... I drove from Milwaukee to Woodbury, MN. Saw my brother for the first time since last August. Had pizza and flourless chocolate cake with the family. Lit candles. Opened presents.

22. Did you fall in love in 2009?

Do my crushes on my laptop and Chris Pine count?

23. How many one-night stands?

None. :(

24. What was your favorite TV program?

TrueBlood, Slings & Arrows, Pushing Daisies. I also quite liked The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and I'm still bummed that it was canceled. I also rediscovered Futurama and TOS, to my delight. ATM I'm making my way through The Middleman and DS9.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?

I'm pretty sure I hated Lieberman last year. :P No, I try not to hate anyone.

26. What was the best book you read?

Probably To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf. But The True Meaning of Smek Day by Adam Rex was far and away the most fun.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?

Neko Case.

28. What did you want and get?

A paid internship and a new computer.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?

Star Trek! Though, objectively speaking, other movies were technically better.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

I turned 29. I was getting over a cold, so archon-mentha and her lovely daughter came by with cake and soup.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

Money that I don't have to repay. Or sex.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2009?

I have a fashion concept? Uh, basics: jeans, plain shirt, interesting jewelry.

34. What kept you sane?

My BFF. My cats. You guys.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

Chris Pine and Jon Stewart.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?

Gay marriage and health care.

37. Who did you miss?

All my friends who live far away. My brother down in Texas.

38. Who was the best new person you met?

I don't know! I've met so many lovely people this year, I couldn't possibly decide. Between getting more involved in fandom, and getting more involved in my school ... there are too many awesome new people in my life to list 'em.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009:

Bzuh. Um. Persevere? That sounds trite. I don't know. I'm not sure I learned anything of particular value. Always go to interviews armed with a long list of questions, even if you sort of know the answers already? Buy the shoes??
