1. Ha! Internship application has been sent. *crosses fingers* I really want this one. Also, I have an interview at a library next week. I'm feeling very hopeful these days!

2. I'd totally forgotten about this fic that I wrote three years ago - until this morning: The Only Logical Thing To Do. In which Sirius Black writes Kirk/Spock porn. Hee. It's almost a crossover. Sirius's fic is (deliberately) bad, but the Sirius/Remus bits are somewhat explicit, so. If that's your cuppa. I'm having a little trouble judging my older HP fics these days, but this one is definitely still cute.

3. Did you know that baby nurse sharks eat one another in utero? That's what it says in this April - June 2009 issue of Conservation magazine. Wtf. Nurse sharks have two wombs, and the two fiercest/hungriest ones get born. That is fucked up. And yet...I love this batshit world. Since nurse shark populations are in decline, scientists are working on artificial wombs for them, so more baby sharks will be born. O_o

4. AND - a meme.

Comment to this entry and I'll pick up to three of your fandoms. You must then update your journal and answer the following questions:

1. What got you into this fandom in the first place?
2. Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
3. Favorite episodes/books/movies, etc?
4. Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?
5. Do you think more people should get into this fandom?

Firefly

1. I was in Japan when Firefly aired, so I didn't even know about it until Joss said there was going to be a movie. Then all of YOU started talking about it, and it sounded awesome, so I rented the DVDs from Blockbuster. I watched them in very quick succession because I wanted to see "Serenity" while everyone was still talking about it.

2. I don't know that I was ever in the fandom, since I missed the show when it aired. But it's a show I watch repeatedly (helps that there are so few episodes) and...it doesn't get old. So I don't see myself falling out of love anytime soon.

3. DON'T MAKE ME CHOOSE. No, I think my favorites are "Our Mrs. Reynolds" because it's funny and I LOVE Saffron, and "Heart of Gold" because Nandi is awesome and Mal gets to be heroic. And...there are other reasons. Just little things that I love. (Learned recently that Jayne Mansfield's first name is actually Vera. Okay, Joss. I don't know what that's all about.)

4. I join in discussions when they pop up on my flist, which isn't often these days. I write the very occasional fic. As you can see, I still have a couple of Firefly icons in my rotation.

5. YES. Make Fox feel STOOPID for canceling it (if they don't already).

Harry Potter

1. I read the first HP book back in...late 1999. I'd heard it was good, so I'd ordered it from Amazon, but it just sat on my shelf for a few months. Then I started studying for my Chaucer final and I needed to balance Geoffrey with...something light. And then I was hooked. Next summer, GoF came out and it was kind of awesome. I was working for a rival publishing company at that point, and we were all reading GoF under our desks when the editor-in-chief wasn't looking. I'd see people dressed as witches and wizards riding the subway. But I didn't get into the fandom until I reread the first four books three years later.

2. I've moved on. The books still have a place in my heart, but I'm really Pottered out. Canon is closed, I've said everything about it that I want to say.

3. For the books - "Prisoner of Azkaban," hands down. Lupin and Sirius are introduced, Hermione is probably at her awesomest, Hagrid has yet to become really fucking annoying...and Voldemort isn't in it AT ALL. There is no bad in this book. And nothing is superfluous. That's something that bugged me about all the subsequent books; not every element needs to advance the plot, but a lot of little things felt like padding. PoA is the perfect length for JK Rowling. For the movies... I think GoF was the best adaptation, though I really liked the design of PoA and OotP.

4. I did. QUITE a lot. I wrote fanfic, I made fan mixes, I ran a community (siriusloving), I participated in discussions on Livejournal, at Fiction Alley, and Yahoo ML.

5. Sure, why not? It's an awesomesly fun series. Just...leave me out of it. For now. I'm in recovery.

The Prydain Chronicles

1. I must have been...10 or 11. I'd just read "The Hobbit" and was looking for more high fantasy novels for young adults. ("The Lord of the Rings" was a little too epic for me at that point.) No one recommended Lloyd Alexander to me. (I didn't ask the librarians for recommendations, since most of them were mean.) I just browsed, and came across "The Black Cauldron." ("The Book of Three" was out at the time.) Lloyd Alexander sounded like a good, reliable name (hey, I was 10) and the cover looked...interesting. It was from the Disney poster, and I vaguely recalled seeing ads for the movie back in the 80s. (We didn't see it because my younger brother was afraid of the Cauldron Born.) The princess on the cover looked strong or at least important. So I gave it a try. And fell completely in love. Completely, completely. I loved all the characters (except Gwydion) even though I couldn't pronounce most of their names (I got Taran and Hen Wen right, at least!)

2. Yes. Forever and forever.

3. I DON'T KNOW. "The Castle of Llyr" is romantic and Eilonwy saves the world. Also, Rhun is in it and Rhun is awesome. But "Taran Wanderer" is all about Taran experiencing the world. And Doli's in it, though Eilonwy isn't. But "The Black Cauldron" was my introduction to the series and it's awesome too.

4. I write the occasional fan fiction. I've written three so far. That's about it.

5. Absolutely, yes. More love for the companions is LOVELY.
