Just went to the dentist, and got molds for my upper and bottom teeth. Gonna have to wear a night splint and maybe get my wisdom teeth removed. So fun! :[
Besides all that, Kathyrn bought the tickets, and even though they're a tad more than I thought they would be (sorry guys!), I think we're all still good to go and what not. It'll be excellent - less than a month before the concert!
Summer's being lazy, but I've started being slightly more mobile, and drumming again since I bought my new headphones. Even though they're not as good as my old pair, they're decent, so I can't complain too much.
Through reading through the forums of a music site (www.digitaldreamdoor.com for those who are interested), I've grown to appreciate certain singers/bands more. For example, Gethsemane off of Jesus Christ Superstar is one of my new favorite songs. Ian Gillan sings from the perspective of Jesus, and his massive emotion combined with his powerful voice and incredible range makes it an absolutely amazing song. If you want to hear it, just IM me... it's not heavy metal or anything, so don't be too scared off just cause it's me who recommends it. :]
Also, with the good comes the bad. Looking at the list of covers page, I fell upon a complete musical travesty. It is the only song that I can recall right now that makes me legitimately angry listening to. I get visibly upset if I listen to it too much.
No, it's not Dolly Parton - Stairway to Heaven, even though she butchers it up pretty nicely. She can actually sing, so even though it's much worse than the original, it's still listenable to, and dare I say it, slightly enjoyable.
If you've seen me online in the past few days, you've probably seen me ranting about it.
Hilary Duff - My Generation
Holy crap, this cover could NOT be worse. If you've heard the original (and I'm sure you have) by The Who, you know it's a pretty famous (and awesome) rock anthem. I mean, I would say it ranks pretty highly in the most famous rock songs ever. So, if you want to cover it, you'd better do a DAMN good job of it to make it anything close to the original.
Hilary Duff has failed miserably in all aspects.
Keith Moon is one of my favorite drummers, so imagine my horror when straight from the beginning the synth drums come plodding in. Then, there's the keyboard. Pete Townshend and John Entwistle's guitar and bass work (respectively) is reduced to a lame ass keyboard. John Entwistle's awesome bass solo is reduced to a half-length keyboard piece of shit. Hilary Duff can't sing worth a shit. She does the stutter completely wrong, and her voice is literally painful to listen to at points. I just went "BLEEEEHHHHHHH" a few seconds ago because I'm listening to the song while writing this. She also inserts random lame shit in the song, like people chanting PEOPLE in the background for sections.
Besides all that, the worst part is that she CHANGES the damn words. I didn't even know she COULD do that. In the original, Roger Daltrey says, "I hope I die before I get old." In the cover, Hilary Duff says, "I hope I DON'T die before I get old." It might seem like one word doesn't really make a difference, but she pretty much completely changes the meaning of the line, and therefore, a fundamental part of the song.
Before, I didn't really have a ton against Hilary Duff. Now, whenever I hear her on the radio or wherever, I'll think about her bastardization of My Generation. :[
I'm not sure if you'd want to, but if you want to hear the badness, you can IM me for the cover (and the original too, if you don't have it.)
Geeeeez. :[
