A/N: Written for Jade Sabre, for Yuletide 2008. 5,100 words. Many thanks to krabapple and heidi8 for beta reading. (Hee. There's a tiny plot hole we all missed. Just pretend it's not there, okay?) I think this is my favorite story that I wrote all year. It was certainly one of the most challenging.

A/N: And this one was for gillianinoz, also for Yuletide 2008. 1,200 words. I'd just finished reading Dragonsong for the first time since I was thirteen, and was struck by - what I took to be - Elgion's obvious attraction to Alemi. I couldn't help wondering if it was reciprocated. Also, tent peg! I love you, Anne, but oh my god. *is evil*
( Shards, he thought. If we clung to every single tradition, Menolly would not now be at Harper Hall, and I wouldn't be camping on this beach tonight, fulfilling a boyhood dream. )
