Well..I'll bet you all thought I was long dead and buried :) Nope..still kicking around, but not had a real lot to say that I thought was worth saying.
OK..now this is a bit of a rant, but here goes anyway. If I still have anyone out there who may possibly read this, I'd like to hear your opinions/comments.
I was listening the other day to President Obama and his unscheduled lil speech over the Trayvon Martin affair ( No..my rant is not over the shooting or 'trial' ) and something that he said struck me as slightly racist.
He referred to "African Americans". Now..I know that term is now the accepted , "politically correct" way of referring to the ethnic background of certain people..but really..is it really less offensive than the older "N*gger, Bl*ck, N*gro or whatever ?
Aren't they ALL simply "Americans" ?? After all, weren't THEIR great, great, great grandparents more likely to have been in America ( abliet involuntarily) far earlier than many others who emigrated there and now are just called American ??
You don't read or hear of anyone else in the media being generally referred to as -ohh - Irish American, English American, Dutch American, whatever, when they are mentioned?
So why the continually harping on "African American" ??
Yes - there are times when a person's ethnic ancestry is relevant to what is being said/discussed. But it should be RELEVANT..not just for the purpose of everyday use.
Otherwise, as far as I'm concerned, it's still simply just another form of racial discrimination/profiling. They are AMERICANS..pure and simple, and have the right to be addressed as such, no more, no less than any other citizen of the United States.
End of rant/discussion. Thought's please ?? :)
