Book #39 of 2023: Informatzia

Informatzia by Catherine Keegan/loupnoir. I first read this book in 2014, but didn't remember a single element of the plot at all, so it was just like reading it for the first time again.

The Amazon review I wrote in 2014 was:

If you're looking for a great tale of spies, Russian-American culture, werewolves, and a dash of magic, this is the book for you! Dark and gritty, this is a great follow-up to Oboroten. I'm impatiently waiting for the third book!

I enjoyed the story and really liked spending more time with the main character Yuri, but there was a pretty bad technical issue with the book that kept me from really getting lost in it. I'm not sure if it was my copy or all copies, but there was no indication when a scene changed (no extra line breaks or * * * or anything). So I'd be reading along, then suddenly the characters were in a new location or with no indication new characters would be there or something totally new was happening or a new conversation was taking place. It made it really hard to keep track of what was going on.

Maybe it was some kind of technical issue in translating the file the story was in into a book file? It happened every few pages, which made the story challenging to read. It's really too bad about that, because I otherwise enjoyed it.

It's interesting that even though I don't remember reading this book before, I agree with my reviews from back then. On Goodreads in 2014 I wrote:

While I love the main character, I found myself wishing to be able to see so much more of this world. The few glimpses of the "magic cops" (special members of the FBI) made them seem so interesting! And the few mentions of Rose Jones (main character of Durmstrang Chronicles) made me itch to have her show up in the story.

While I did enjoy the story, I (greedily!) wanted to see more of the rest of the world this time, too.

Looking forward to the third book, whenever it comes out!
