"You can't tell a book by the cover" is no longer true.

For a while now, I've realized one of my first ways of deciding if I want to read a book was by looking at its cover. Not the content of the cover, but the quality of it.

Sometimes it's obvious a book is self published:


Sometimes it's less obvious but still can be seen:



... Ha, the author's description of that second book:

'Wolf Pack' is just a little post alien invasion story about the adventures of a lone surviving soldier who reluctantly take a 100 weepy, no-nothing wimpy females on a four hundred mile trek across the mountains...

NO-NOTHING WIMPY FEMALES.

I think someone here is a "no-nothing".

From the same description:

He was hundreds of miles inside alien held territory with no heavy weapons, no support, no Intel on the aliens, and no way to report the mission was a bust.
