I swear, soon I'll post something other than book reviews! I write posts up in my head while away from the computer, then never get around to actually typing them up. Soon! But for now...

Book #8: Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan ( Read more... )

Based on your description of the setting, I'd buy it ... if it wasn't for all the rest.

Yeah. The setting rocked. The idea was great (the world-building, some plot points). The author had some good ideas (the titles of the books in the series -- I loved them). It's just the characters were so painfully bad and no one acted in a realistic way. The book had such potential!

I remember really liking this book, but I don't remember the pairing off side plot thing. I'll have to re-read it to see if I still like it.

I'm really not all that big on post-apocalyptic and zombies, so I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the setting of the book. I've read the second book and a couple other short stories set in the same world, but I haven't gotten to the third book yet.

I honestly can't say whether or not you'd be annoyed by the characters in the second book as I wasn't bothered by the ones in the first book as much. I chalked some of their behavior down to severe indoctrination back in the village - after all, they broke the rules and disaster occurred, so it seemed logical enough to me that they'd be scared to keep on breaking the rules. On the other hand, when one of the main characters from the second book does show up in the second, she annoys me greatly, so I can't fully recommend it.

There's always the library if you're curious enough and don't want to spend money, but it seems to me that you have plenty of other books in your queue.

I'm glad you enjoyed it! A lot of people did, so I might be the odd man out here.

The library is a good idea. The book has still stuck with me (get out of my head!) but I don't want to buy the second for sure. I might look into it that way...

Also: LJ still sucks and I can't comment on or even load your LJ main page, so don't think I'm ignoring you or not reading!

First off, realized that my above comment should read "when one of the main characters from the first book shows up in the second," but I think you probably interpreted it correctly even if I mistyped it. ;)

Also I haven't been posting all that much lately, to be honest. I'm boring nowadays, I guess. ^^; The last couple of posts have talked about video games, namely Final Fantasy III on the DS.

Yep, understood! I'm posting less, too. I'm still reading LJ as often, but for some reason I feel boring, too. I'm trying to post more!
