Brooklyn Redux and No Jazz

So basically Nerd Nite Nerdtacular was, well, Nerdtacular. Maria and I learned how birds have sex, why parasitic finches are way nicer than cuckoos, and how to pick out hipsters from real nerds in a crowd. The Galapagos Art Space is purty, as evidenced by this photoset, and we ended up having to skip the lecture on parasites that turn their hosts into zombies to go to Rice for some nummy late-night fare. I opted for the edamame hummus (A+) that came with the fluffiest pita ever, plus the Indian Chicken Curry ("chicken and mushrooms in a luxurious, creamy, mild curry topped with yogurt, almonds, raisins and banana, mango chutney served on the side") with the thai black rice with edamame peas sauteed in garlic. MMMMMMmmm.

Earlier in the day I went to the Flushing Meadows Community Pool to teach her how to swim. Luckily, Flushing lap swimmers are apparently not hardcore at all, so even her made-up breaststroke could probably make do.
(She's looking for an alternative to running since it's getting dark earlier and she doesn't want to get killed.) I forgot how much I miss swimming. Sigh. It's such a liberating feeling, gliding through the water like that. And the fatigue afterwards is so nice and full-body. Feels more like naptime than certain death (like running).

Today there was a Jazz Age festival on Governor's island that I really wanted to go to, but alas. I had "too much to do" today (and of course did about 5% of it). I suppose I'll have to wait til the spring to get my swing on on a deserted island.

In other news, did I mention I recently purchased 9 issues of McSweeney's Quarterly Concern? I couldn't care less about the content*, but the design work put into those things is amazing. Oh so clever. And Dave Eggers may be full of himself, but he is a funny guy.

On to laundry, maybe? Emails? Phone calls? Sigh.

*--this is not entirely true
