[SuJu ficlet] one shot to forever

Mar 03, 2008 20:37

title: one shot to forever
characters: siwon/yeonhee/geng
summary: something to have for always.
author's notes: based on Zhang Li Yin's MVs "I Will" and "Lovers", because those drove me crazy with the heartbreak. i picked 'kangsik' as the name of the villain in this tale.

for

kirahita - the kibum to my donghae, my love, always. <3

'always' was something geng understood.

and that was what yeonhee was - his constant.

geng had no memory without yeonhee in it. she was always there.

and he had always loved her.

siwon was another constant - geng's best friend, his brother.

and it had always been the three of them, together.

*

it was difficult for geng to compete with siwon for anything. most of the time, geng never really put up much of a fight for something that siwon also wanted. geng felt that it was better to lose to siwon than to risk their friendship. if there was something else geng understood, it was loyalty, and moreso, devotion. it was this loyalty that had him keep all those feelings for yeonhee inside: he knew that siwon loved yeonhee, too.

geng would much rather just be yeonhee's best friend if it meant keeping siwon's friendship. he couldn't choose between them, and wouldn't even try.

loving her in secret was worth it: the smile on siwon's face, and the happiness the three of them shared. geng would do everything to have this happiness for always.

*

he didn't mean to hurt siwon, he didn't, he would never even dare harm him, but something went terribly wrong. the spear wasn't supposed to have a real blade - geng shook when he realized what had happened, what he had done - he had wanted to help siwon, but everything happened so fast. the next thing geng knew, yeonhee had whisked him away from the theater, away from the accusing glares, away from the condemning fingers pointed at him, away from siwon.

geng didn't remember much, except for the sight of the blood - siwon's blood - on ajusshi's hands, the cries of outrage, and the look of pain in siwon's eyes - and geng relived the memory over and over through the night.

he woke up to find yeonhee asleep, beautiful in slumber, and he decided to pretend like nothing happened - to see yeonhee worried would be too much for him to bear. so when yeonhee opened her eyes, geng hid behind his smile and offered her breakfast.

later, it was yeonhee who made lunch. and as she served the meal, geng found the empty spot on the table too large to ignore - there were always place for three. but when geng realized that yeonhee was staring at him, concerned, he covered up with an awkward laugh and stuffed rice into his face. nothing, nothing. just spaced out for a bit. eat now, eat! he offered a spoonful of rice to her, and laughed.

*

when siwon lunged at him and grabbed his shirt, geng was too shocked to react - there was relief knowing that siwon survived, then came the guilt. it was the latter that caused geng not to defend himself, not even when his brain was screaming that he didn't mean it, he didn't KNOW the blade was real.

yeonhee was screaming, begging. it wasn't his fault siwon stop he didn't mean to hurt you stop stop please stop! but siwon ignored her, and she was shoved to the ground during the tussle.

geng saw the gun first. then he saw kangsik approach - kangsik, whom they grew up with, whom they've always known.

geng clutched siwon's coat and spun him around. geng's breath was knocked out of him as the bullet hit, the little piece of metal piercing through his chest. he felt himself fall, and he heard yeonhee crying his name, her fingers flitting frantically across his face.

somewhere there was siwon, wrestling kangsik to the ground, the gun sailing away from the traitor's grasp. geng thought he was only dreaming, but when he felt the cold, solid weapon within reach, he gathered his remaining strength to protect yeonhee and siwon - he prayed his aim be true, then fired.

despite his quickly fading vision, geng saw that he hit his target. kangsik fell lifeless on the ground. siwon was safe.

siwon ran to geng's side. there was immense comfort to see the three of them together again. relief washed over him because he was already absolved in siwon's eyes. and since geng was now sure that yeonhee knew of his love, he couldn't ask for anything more - nothing at all.

and as geng closed his eyes, he knew that he would keep this little piece of happiness for always.
