Pushing the cafe's door open, Kaoru glanced about the cafe for any signs of Grell, with any large amounts of red being her main indicator of her friend's presence. The cafe was slowing down from its lunchtime rush. A few officeworkers were seated in the corner by themselves, laughing over some mundane joke that only the pencil pushers could possibly appreciate. Couples were playing footsies at the tables dappled about the room while singles leered over their caffeinated beverages in a mix of disgust and jealousy. A few "hip" teenagers were standing to leave from a few of the booths; she moved out of their way almost immediately, but none of them seemed to take note of her while she was dressed so casually. And she was fine with that. All Kaoru wanted right now was a nice latte macchiato and a chance to make another real friend; that kind that saw beyond the fame. (Although her meeting brief with Ema, she seemed to be well-intentioned and a bit of a celebrity now herself.) But there was no mistaking Kaoru's gratefulness for all that she had been given. She just craved a little human contact from time to time. She glanced about the cafe once more, before looking at her watch.
"Still a few minutes early..." the model murmured to herself. Grell had to either be coming from another part of town or was hidden by some of the other patrons. But on the bright side, it would give Kaoru time to order. Stepping into the line, Kaoru glanced outside. Nobody ever sat outside on those tables and it showed in their condition. Although cleanly, it looked as though the chairs were ready to give out should even a simple bird land upon them and the tables had most certainly seen less rust-filled days. She sighed. But of course, who would want to sit outside when there's no real sun to admire? Some days she wished that GeneCo could even fix the sky so she could bask in that giant orb in the sky that before the surgeries would have had to hide in fear from.
"Eh? Miss Amane?" Kaoru looked up to the counter from her position in line as the cashier acknowledged her. "I hardly recognized you looking so normal! Come up here, we'll have your regular ready in a flash!" The rest of the line heaved a collective, heavy (and a little tired) sigh.
"N-No, that's fine," Kaoru smiled, shaking her head a little faster than she intended to. "These people were ahead of me. Tend to them first." The cashier looked at her for a moment before nodding and agreeing to her request. Kaoru wrapped her arms around herself slightly, sighing relief as she felt the eyes leave her. Couldn't go just one day without the recognition.
