So here I sit with my first official cold of the new school year. I was warned going into the teaching profession that my immune system would not be able to combat all the germs flying my way in the breeding ground that is the classroom, and they were correct. It had gotten to where I could actually go a month or two without getting sick, but after being out of the classroom since January, the germies have found a way to penetrate my vitamin-deficient body once again. I really should remember to eat my Fred Flintstones. I had a bad fever yesterday and sort of felt delirious from the NyQuil, so I called in a substitute for today. Now I'm sitting on the couch, sporadically working on editing articles for the next magazine, watching the news, adding to the sea of used tissues in the bag by my couch, and looking out my sliding glass doors at the wind and rain. Fun times. It's actually quite relaxing, other than the whole sinus headache thing.
I was flipping channels last night, trying to choose between Hurricane Coverage A, Hurricane Coverage B, or Sappy Sunday Movie of the Week, and I landed on Fox News. Shepard Smith, who's kind of a douchebag anyway, was on Bourbon street reporting about the loonies who decided to stay in the French Quarter and get hammered as certain death came their way (or so the reporters put it). There were about 100 people in a daquiri bar, and as one of them walked out, Smith asked him in a semi-condescending manner, "So I'm curious...what are you still doing here??" to which the man curtly responded on live television...Fox News at that... "It's none of your fucking business!" Oh man, that cheered me up for a bit.
I want some chicken fries.
