Just got my internet hooked up this afternoon...good thing...I was starting to get the shakes.
I'm fairly settled in my apartment now. It's not perfect, but it works. They still have some more painting to do and some more minor renovations to complete...and they keep saying they're going to come do it, but they haven't yet. It's annoying. I did get 40$ off next month's rent because I informed them that my shower/sink wasn't clean when I got here. I'll gladly scrub a few faucets for 40$.
School's ok. It's nowhere near as terrible as the school I only taught at for two weeks, but nowhere near as wonderful and comfortable as the place I stayed for a year and a half. The kids are fairly well behaved and respectful, and the teachers are nice. The principal's kind of crazy...as in, so strict and tightly-wound that I think his head will implode at any moment. But he just started and it's his first principal position and he's an old football coach, so whatev.
We had open house tonight, and only about 6 of my students' parents showed up. The power went out at the beginning of the thing, so we had to do everything in complete darkness. I mean, I couldn't even see their faces. But I felt good about it. They said they were very impressed with me so far and that the kids come home every day speaking Spanish and saying they like my class, so that makes me feel good. One dude (a kid's grandfather with whom he lives) came in totally wasted. This 70-year-old man didn't even have a clue where he was, I don't think. He reeked. Very sad.
I'm still trying to adjust to getting up at 6 a.m. every morning. It's not as hard as I expected, surprisingly. Going to bed at 10 is a little surprising, though.
Searching for something interesting to say...Yeah...I got nothing. Sleepy time.
