I got the job!!!!!
I just finished reading the textbook they
use. It kind of sucks, but whatev. I think they do things
out of order, but it's probably because I'm so used to my old
book. (Why teach the Spanish alphabet AFTER you complete the
entire first chapter? Shouldn't that be the FIRST thing?)
So I will just use it as a guide but rearrange as I see fit. The
classroom is great; it's very clean, it actually has desks in it
(previous school - no desks) and there are murals on the walls of
bullfights (painted by a student). And the classes will be small
- 15-20 students per class as opposed to almost 40 at the school I quit
- so that will help things a lot. I think (hope) I will enjoy it
there.
So that means insurance and money...and that means....
I'm getting an apartment!!
Yaaay! I looked at literally every
apartment complex, duplex, rental home, etc. in the city and I think I
found the best deal. Most places didn't have any vacancies.
I'm getting a 2 bedroom, 2 bath apt. with a really awesome,
unusual-looking fireplace, a HUGE walk-in closet, WD connections, big
dining area, etc. I'm getting a discount (the first month's rent
is free but I'm getting her to divide that up among 12 months to get
cheaper rent) and they pay for my cable! Plus the whole thing is
newly renovated: new lighting, carpet, paint, kitchen appliances,
cabinets, countertops, the works. And there's a pool! I'll
be moving in August 1st and teachers report to work August 2nd (kids
start the 8).
I can't even express how ready and excited I am for these changes in my life.
Also, I'm in the process of applying for a
Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship
that would pay for me to travel and study abroad for three months next
summer! I'm finishing up my essays tonight and meeting with a
local Rotary member in the morning who is a huge advocate of the
program and has been successful in nominating people in the past.
The only two people that I know who have ever applied for it were both
accepted and this guy helped them. That would be so
awesome! I'm listing Costa Rica and Spain as my first two
choices...my fingers are crossed! I'll keep those who care
updated.
