I went for a walk yesterday and you know how when you happen to notice something, you keep seeing it? The street is long and lined by Tyneside flats (Victorian terraced houses, often three up, three down, each built with two front doors to give access to an upstairs and a downstairs flat) so there were loads of front doors. It amazed me how many of them had urn shaped door knockers.
Far, far more than had lion's heads
and they were more common than the woman's head.
This is apropos of nothing. Just something I noticed. And probably reflects the fact that the street is predominately rented flats and the urn knocker is cheaper than the other, more characterful ones.
And then I saw this
which is wonderful. I imagine that flat is owner occupied.
And I just noticed that there is no stud for the knocker to knock against. I suppose you're supposed to use the doorbell above.
On to the meme.
21. Which parent are you more like?
My Dad. Physically (although the first time I got a fringe I saw my Mum in my face for the first time, around the eyes) and emotionally - we are both introverted and anti-social, while my Mum is a real people person.
22. Do you have a preference on name brand vs store brand?
In food purchase I tend towards store brand for most things, on the basis of price, but there are a number of things which I definitely buy as a named brand because of proven quality. In clothing, I do my best to avoid any visible branding, although that can be difficult for some things, particularly sports and leisure wear.
