And today in the monthly meme we go from the sinister (and hopefully impossible) to the fun (and equally impossible) *g*
13. If you could bring back any cancelled TV series, which TV show would you choose to bring back?
It seems to me that these days most successful television series don't die until they have out-lived the interest of their fans and/or the imagination of their creators. With long-living series there seems to always be the need to 'top' the previous season with something bigger. I'm thinking about fantasy series here. Buffy and Supernatural both suffered from that ill, and in the case of Supernatural to what eventually became a ridiculous extent.
Occasionally a series will end because it has reached a natural conclusion. Those last are the really satisfying ones and I think were more common in the past, before ratings tempted/forced writers to continue and create a new plot twist.
On the whole I don't tend to get invested that much in individual television series. I enjoy them when they're on, but I get over it pretty fast when they stop. It would not have occurred to me to bring back Doctor Who, for example, although I am really glad it is back.
So, with that in mind I am having a bit of difficulty choosing/remembering a series I would want to bring back. I suppose I would have liked maybe one more series, maybe two more series of Firefly, because it didn't get a chance to start escalating into stupidity and it would have been nice to see the film played out over a number of episodes. It would be nice to see Sherlock again, if they could just keep the plots reasonable. There was a nice gentle character based hospital drama called Monroe, which I enjoyed and still had potential. But on the whole I think when a television series dies, it is usually deserved *g*
