I've been out of touch with the news for the past few days, but I just caught up and Oh My God, poor Beirut. Such destruction, such individual bravery, so much loss from such a careless cause.

I feel so sorry for them, it has quite upset me, they have been through so much already. I know what it is like to have your town blow up!

Although I was in France when the Buncefield depot went up and I missed the actual explosion, it was about about a mile away from where I live and even closer to where I work. I saw the aftermath of that up close once they let us in after the fire was put out. Buncefield had a magitude of 2.4, and Beirut was 3.3, so it was a much bigger explosion, but it was jaw-dropping to see the way it had ripped through the buildings. We were so lucky that it was early on Sunday and there was very little housing around there at time (that's set to change), the poor, poor people of Beirut. They have lost everything.

It's incredibly tragic and the frustrating part is that their Government did nothing about such a hazardous chemical being stored for so long despite the fact the dock people kept asking what was going to be done with it. A horrific tragedy waiting to happen.

It is simply and utterly the most unfair and dreadful thing. That poor, poor city, and those poor people - they have had enough!

I was particularly devastated when a friend pointed out that first responders had time to get on scene before the big explosion went off. Someone's negligence has cost far too much.

I know, I have no words for how terrible it is.

Isn't it crazy how when you don't look/have access to news for a couple of days and then you can come back to something like this.

It is a scale I can't even imagine.
